Canelo and Golovkin are Pulling a Mayweather/Pacquiao

Both sides are in on this. The precedent has been set. Delaying the fight benefits both parties and they can cash in on mismatches over the next few years and cash out when they are ready.

What Canelo did was disgraceful. I've already stated my opinion on that. But that doesn't give GGG the excuse of wasting a year on Dominic Wade and a welterweight. He had several other options:

    Lara
    Lee
    Khurtsidze
    Korobov
    Heiland
    Johnson (?)

His opponent selection tells me that his promoter knows that delaying the Canelo fight makes good business sense and that they will not be taking any risks until that fight goes down. The problem is, boxing is struggling so badly and networks are in such desperate need of a new star that they will get behind these bull**** matchups and not put these fighters and promoters on the hot seat.

K2 and Golden Boy are capitalizing on HBO's desperation for a new star and the ignorance of boxing's casual fanbase who just doesn't know enough about the sport to recognize a mismatch.

Be on the lookout for another year or two of mismatches.

I don't see it. Wade was a mandatory, I'm tired of rehashing that bull**** conversation. A man who dreams of being undisputed champion is not gonna give up one of his belts just because he has to fight an unheralded contender. He made short work of him and moved on, as should the people on this board.

As for the rest, all those options suck.
Lara was reportedly pricing himself out behind Haymon.
Lee has made no indication he's interested in Golovkin (and coming off a loss.. he shouldn't be)
Khurtsidze is old, tiny and brings nothing.
Korobov barely got by some journeyman on boxing latino
    Heiland sucks
And Johnson is marginally better than Wade. And even that's arguable.

So yeah, Golovkin's options dried up once again (Canelo, Jacobs, Ramirez, BJS, Eubank) and his promoter pounced on the first decent name who wanted the fight. It's a crap fight but a no-brainer decision. Negotiate with Haymon and pay Lara or get paid for fighting Brook?

Alvarez tops financial profits combining the brands Eubank Jr, Golovkin, and Brook all together.

So what does fighting Brook have to do with not choosing a 160 Eubank Jr.? Supposedly if Eubank Jr. was easy for Golovkin why the recent choice?

Mayweather and Manny did fight legit competition in between, so I'm not ready to equate both situations yet.

you can't be serious if you think that golovkin's people don't want their 34 year old guy in there with canelo.

is that really what you think? they don't want the biggest fight in boxing, in which they'll be favored to win via knockout, adn that could vault them to the biggest earner in boxing?

          thought you'd changed

Except both those guys actually fought high level fights in the meantime. Canelo and Golovkin are trying to sell us on ****ing fools gold. In fact they aren't even trying.

And Brook is a welterweight. See. I can play the Golovkin fan game of discrediting every opponent that gets mentioned as well.

I doubt this will take 6 years like May-Pac.

pbp i respect your opinion but is it possible that GGG has tried to make the best fights that he possibly can in his division and in the 11th hour... with 2 months left to go after months and months of negotiations with other fighters (Canelo BJS, Eubank) they accepted a fight that was put in front of them.
