No announcement yet.
Golovkin could've been fighting Ward this fall. Missed out on a big opportunity.

That's the part GG detractors have been conveniently filtering out for years. In a way Ward save them at the last minute for having to make things up considering this GG-ducking-Ward thing started way before Ward's late offer, which is the only one they can cite as proof.

Exactly.Originally posted by kafkod View PostGolovkin was already committed to going for the winner of Cotto/Canelo, and Ward didn't have his tune-up fight till March this year, so no, Golovkin couldn't have had back to PPVs, unless he wanted to give up his WBC mando position and sit around doing nothing till Ward was ready for him.
The fight was never viable.
Both fighters are at different stages of their careers.

A garbage post.Originally posted by Eastlos View PostLil G is the biggest ducker in the game... First he says anyone from 154-168 lbs but not Ward n Lara. Instead of taking an actual challenge in his next fight he chooses another prospect in Eubanks his 3rd in 4 fights... Why not fight Lara an actual champion? Even his Lil G fanboys are getting tired of him fighting bums. Enough is enough it's time for HBO to force this ducker to grow a pair and fight Lara no more easy matches for this 35 yrs old paper champ

Not even fall. They would have already fought.

---We made him an offer, prior quite frankly, to knowing about the fight with Lemieux. But regardless of that fight, the offer was very, very clear - that he and Andre would both have one fight before they fought each other, and they would fight each other sometime in the first half of 2016.
What opportunity? In 2013, a Ward-Golovkin fight had zero significance.Originally posted by ИATAS View PostAlso if we're going to be fair, Ward had a chance to fight Golovkin in 2013 at 168 and Ward wasn't interested. Missed opportunity for Ward.Last edited by DoktorSleepless; 06-28-2016, 12:24 PM.

There was absolutely no reason for Golovkin to give up his belts.Originally posted by OnePunch View Postsure....... sure...... give up all the middleweight titles you spent YEARS getting, wait over a year for Ward to finish his "Tune Up Tour", and then give 50-50 to a guy who cant sell out the first 3 rows of a school bus outside Oakland, oh and also spot him 8 pounds and agree to a weight that he hasnt made in 3 years.
Sounds like a great plan. What could possibly go wrong?? lol
Edit: GGG should wake up this morning and thank god that you are not his manager

And that changes what exactly? They had Lemieux signed with the idea of fighting Canelo soon after for a huge unification.Originally posted by DoktorSleepless View PostNot even fall. They would have already fought.

Definitely more significance then Edwin Rodriguez. Golovkin got 1.2 million viewers against Macklin and 1.5 million viewers against Stevens in 2013. Andre Ward vs Edwin Rodriguez did 1.2 million, so yeah, Ward vs Golvokin in 2013 would have been a smash hit for boxing fans. What opportunity? In 2013, a Ward-Golovkin fight had zero significance.

Ward did nothing for years when HBO and GGG wanted to build the fight. Golovkin got busy and built himself up. Then Ward sends an offer after GGG's signed on for Lemieux with a big PPV unification on the near horizon. Hindsight is BS folks. Who on this forum would've signed Ward's offer? Give me the reasons why and I'll point out exactly why you're ******....

It was a massive fail on his part. All we heard from the defense force was dumb bragging about GGG being on PPV, and myriad reasons the fight shouldn't have occurred because he was going to fight Cotto or Canelo. How did that work out? A flop of a PPV, a fight against Dwayne Wade, and the possibility of a fight with a prospect who is at the domestic level.

Canelo fight was never going to happen in the first half of 2016. That was completely obvious even if you thought Canelo wasn't a coward at the time. He wasn't going to have a Cotto fight and then Golovkin. A deal could have been worked out easily.Originally posted by ИATAS View PostAnd that changes what exactly? Ward, a p4p lineal 168 champ, versus a vacant belt holder whose best win was macklin held zero significance. Yes. What would people be saying of Golovkin if Ward wiped the floor with him? The intrigue that it had back then was nowhere near what it is now. Would have been better than Rodriguez? Sure, but it was not some fight that had to happen. Golovkin offered Ward the fight when it didn't matter. Ward offered the fight to Golovkin when it did matterDefinitely more significance then Edwin Rodriguez.
