Heard about it?

Well, what is not known is that two years after losing the championship, with his fame slightly waning and his best days past him Mike took a visit to Prague. The zoo there was applauded for its primate housing- and Tyson befriended one of the keepers. Now, people will be people- with their greed and momentary lapses in common sense and decency. Reportedly for a $15,000 American Tyson was allowed in the Gorilla sanctuary for ten minutes- left alone. He was told that, should he be caught or need help, the keeper would tell them Tyson broke in...take no responsibility. Entering the cage Tyson confronted a male Silver back Gorilla who was, at first, skittish and very aggressive. Being careful not to get immediately attacked Tyson was able to get close enough to, with all his force, hit the animal with a strong hook.

According to the keeper he stunned the animal- which staggered backward like it had been electrocuted, looking drunk, before falling down into a sitting position. When the gorilla got up it was angry, irate- and went to two legs screaming, barring its teeth- and Tyson had to run. He would have been mauled to death. Years later, when the keeper had left the zoo, he sold his story to the media.

Tyson has never directly confirmed or denied the story- but comments over the years to those close to him make it seem likely.
Interesting that tyson reckoned he had the power to knock out a gorilla because someone told me that in his post fight interview after beating berbick . That tyson himself said that he hit no harder than berbick . Did tyson actually say that .`

I cant believ Tyson hit a silverback gorilla. But Trevor Berbick might have been able to hit nearly as hared as Tyson, that Tyson couldnt tell the difference between Berbick an d himself. But i cant remember Berbick landing on Tyson.

One thing Tyson wasn't over-rated on was power.
Even in his latter days his power was evident, most notably in the one punch KO of Botha, who's got a pretty decent chin.

I'd rate Shavers & Foreman as having more raw power, but Tyson definitely top 5 all-time for Heavyweight power.

                  Absolutely Tyson's power was overrated

Tyson was not a devastating one punch puncher. Many of the guys mentioned previously threw with one punch harder then Tyson. Where Tyson's dominance came from his his electrifying hand speed and powerful combinations. Yeah Holmes was badly hurt ,but if you would bother to go back and watch the fight you would see it was several punches that hurt him and then he tried to punch Tyson and his arm got caught in the ropes which left him in an awkward, completely exposed position and down he went. If Ruddock had Holmes hurt badly and then was able to land the his devastating smash Larry would have been knocked unconscious for several minutes just like Bonecrusher Smith and Dokes had been.

I dont like discussing power really because so hard to gauge. I doubt if Tyson hit the 5th hardest in the history of boxing, as hard as he hit.
But they should find that Gorilla and ask the siverback how hard Tyson hit? The Gorilla might say Tyson had a weak punch because Tyson didnt knock him out and then ran like a chicken.

Tyson is powerful punch yes but is the most powerful punch in boxing no.

IMO Tyson power is abit overrated not much because the Bad Boy image he gives and his opponent makes him look powerful.
