yup GGG did bring back racism. African Americans cant handle the fact that a nerdy babyfaced whiteboy is the P4P king of the sport. It irks their soul lol.

Yep, no point to these type of threads at all. Impossible to have an objective, constructive conversation ......

If i responded to a post about a news article that used that term, then you'd have a point. Who are "you clowns", by the way?
What context am I using that term in? I said there has been a hope for a great white fighter in boxing for decades because there is actual evidence. You had writers, commentators, and promoters using the term "white hope" when referring to a non black fighter's chances against a dominant black champion. The term was always being historically used against a black champion who was usually ****y as well. Fighters like Jack Johnson, Muhammad Ali, and Floyd Mayweather were able to make a fortune off of the people who bought their fights with the sole purpose of wanting to see them lose. You'd have to be a big time hater to constantly put your hard earned money into the pockets of another man just because you want to see them lose.

When I called you a clown it was in reference to guys like you who seem to have an astonishing amount of ignorance about the history of this sport. Boxing has always had a racial element to it. It didn't start within the past few years. It's been there since boxing's inception.

Whatever man...funny how you mixed that in to your fantasy about closet racists clinging to the idea of a white fighter beating a black fighter to somehow affirm feelings of racial superiority. I'm sure you were just referencing it in a historical context tho.

You're creating this so called "astonishing amount of ignorance" in your mind. At no point did i claim racism has never been a part of the sport or that you invented the term white hope. The fact that you were practically salivating over the thought of imaginary racist white people having an adverse reaction to a white fighter losing to a black fighter was why i singled out the use of that term. I was pointing out that in this day and age, probably the majority of white boxing fans don't give a **** about race...therefore the notion of thinking that white people are hoping for a fighter who is "good enough" to beat a black fighter is racist in itself. But hey, you're the smart boxing historian...so please assign me some arbitrary level of "boxing knowledge" that's enough for you to feel satisfied that you're the "real boxing fan" here.

So you mean to tell me that you know racism has existed in boxing for many years but it no longer exists today? Are you serious dude? That just shows your ignorance. Saying the majority of white people don't care about race today is like saying Mexicans don't support Canelo because he's Mexican too, they just like the way he fights

You seem to have zero knowledge of what white privilege is or how it factors into all aspects of society even to this day. The term "great white hope" is no longer used today because society has become more politically correct but you'd be a fool to think things have changed.

Floyd Mayweather wasn't the highest paid athlete because he was the most beloved, he was the highest paid because he was the most hated, similar to the way Ali was the highest paid boxer of his time, and the way Jack Johnson was the highest paid boxer even in 1908. People watched those guys to see them lose. Now ask yourself, what did they all have in common?
They were ****y, they were good, and they were black.

Get lost with your "imaginary racists" comments. You are truly ignorant if you think they aren't out there today just like they were in the 70s.

When i said imaginary, i was referring to you imagining them for the sake of your narrative...not that they don't exist. Unless you were talking about real people that you actually know.

Yea racism still exists...especially is the small minds if people like you. And it will continue to exist until people take personal responsibility for their own thoughts and beliefs, instead of dwelling on negativity. I don't know one white boxing fan who isn't a fan of all different races of fighters...doesn't mean some don't hate black fighters. Could be cuz there isn't the luxury of many elite white boxers to chose from. Could also be that i associate with people who have evolved past that bs. So you're saying only white people wanted floyd mayweather to lose? Ali was beloved by white people, mainly for things he did outside the ring. As far as jack Johnson goes...times were a little different in america in 1908. You can hold onto racism as much as you want...it's funny how when you really look for something, you seem to find it everywhere. Just don't assume everyone else is clinging to those antiquated beliefs.
