Deep down I truly believe that Team Lara is blowing smoke. They don't want to fight GGG just for the sake of fighting him, because he's the Middleweight champion or pound for pound one of the best boxers in the game.

The real reason they are calling out Golovkin is because they want a substantially higher paycheck than they are normally accustomed to making; Which is very erroneous in their thinking because the pot of gold is simply not there.

Where are they going to get the money? It certainly won't be coming from HBO because GGG's licensing fee from the network is probably around $2.5 Mil and Team Lara is going to want at least a $1 Mil of that; Which will leave Gennady with just over $1.5 Mil.

Moreover, you can't find a promoter to sell it either because neither guy is a box office, mainstream, crossover, pay per view draw. Well unless you consider cutting the ticket prices or giving them away for free, then neither fighter is going to put meat in the seats. He regularly sells out fights in the both the east and west coast, has signed a endorsement deal with the Jordan brand and recently threw a first pitch at a Dodgers MLB game! He is now regularly mentioned and discussed on top American sports shows (eg ESPN first take and PDI) He's slowly but surely crossing over the mainstream. Lara is extremely unknown to the vast majority of boxing fans and sports fan in general. Due to his fighting style, he will always have a hard time attracting fans to come to his shows

That I can't answer. But I can surmise that Lara is refusing to take tough challenges (like another Jr MW champion or move up to 160) because he wants to keep his record unblemished to keep him in the running for a big payday. Whether it be Canelo rematch, Cotto, or GGG...he wants to stay in the running. And I find this "friendship" with the Charlos to be a cop out for not fighting either of em. Even then, that still leaves Callum Smith & Andrade. Would prefer Lara take the best fights...and I know for sure Andrade was available when he ended up choosing Matirosyan.
