The general sentiment among boxing fans is that Lara would be a huge underdog. Lara is hittable, Golovkin knows how to cut off a ring. Most people don't see it a duck if GGG and Lara never fight.

It's a win that will do nothing for GGG's career. Nobody considers Lara a great fighter anymore, they'll see him as another small guy GGG dragged up in weight to knock out.

Lara may be one of his better options name-wise and at least he seems willing to fight Golovkin. That's something but most fans aren't going to be impressed or excited about them fighting.

So maybe he should move into a division first before challenging its champion if he wants the public to take his challenge seriously.

Nobody is writing letters to have GGG fight Lara (well, you and a few others on boxingscene are...) and nobody outside of Lara's team thinks he will be a serious challenge to GGG. You can tell because nobody sees a path to victory for Lara that does not involve him miraculously never getting hit by GGG and never getting cornered in the process.

Lara does not even register as a threat to GGG by the general public. If they remember him at all it will be as the guy who ran from Alvarez all night. Hardcore fans will remember his fight with Angulo, and then will substitute Angulo for GGG in that equation and do the math.

At first I didn't want to see this fight,because lara getting ko'd was basically a foregone conclusion. But at this point,id actually want it to happen,just to watch Lara get mauled. I was actually rooting for the guy when he faught canelo,but he decided to lay an egg during the biggest fight of his career,and run a track meet. From then on,hes literally done nothing with his career,put forth performance with the same excitement as surgery grade anesthesia,and has been running his mouth trying to get another payday. Hopefully he lands the golovkin fight,and that will be the last we'll have to hear of this Cuban fraud.

Exactly. You said it best. Lara is so irrelevant in GGGs world. I certainly understand Lara's reasons for wanting to fight him (purely financial) but it wouldn't be a fair fight. But if no one else wants to fight him let it happen. It will be a quick night for Lara if GGG can catch him.
