That is why K2 gave them the voluntary fit, so he could pick a legit 160 fight to tune up. Not GGG fault he chose Khan.

The answer was because of the name of the challenger de la Hoya was a big name just as Canelo is a big name. You know what Hopkins did? He accepted the deal at 158 and came to the weigh in at 157 to prove a point all his words. He said GGG should follow his route and take the catchweight look it up
The difference is De La Hoya really was much smaller than B-hop.De La Hoya never came in at 175 asking for a CW at MW. Canelo comes in at 175-180, has longer reach than GGG, etc. no need to have him come down. And he wants 5 pounds, not two.

What Canelo is doing is more in line with a young B-hop demanding a SMW come down to 161 to fight him. Just because he can withstand the weight drain better than the older fighter.

I think this fight will be made because Canelo might lose if he fights a top opponent or a legit MW.

He could fight Cotto again, but do people wanna see that again?

If he fought Lemieux, he could get knocked out, same with Stevens. If he fought a top guy at 154 he could get outboxed, so i see him taking the fight while its hot and makes huge amounts of money.

If Canelo loses his next fight there isn't much interest in the fight any more.

Thats totally different. Hopkins was the lineal champion at the that time. He didnt have to accept DLH's terms. He wasn't obligated to take the fight. GGG wants to unify the division and he has the right to fight at the full 160. If GGG had the belt and wanted to fight Canelo, then it would be a different story, he would obviously have to adhere into his demands.

If GGG says he wants to unify 160 belts then would it then be acceptable if Canelo drops the belt then challenges GGG to a fight at 155 on a 70/30 slit?

After all, it's about the belt right?

            I said it here:

Talk about anything boxing related here. Where the boxing discussion is always Non Stop!

GGG should fight Canelo at 154!

Canelo said that "we don't fight for belts we fight for honor" which looks like he may rather vacate the WBC MW belt instead of giving up his 155 weight.

GGG should wait until Canelo vacates or WBC strips him and then offer him a fight at 154...

As Canelo will still hold Oscar's Ring "lineal" belt, they may fight for that belt -- the same Floyd did at 147 with that strap at 154...

Therefore Canelo would be able to fight both for honor and for belts...

              That's a big possibility.

Wrong. Hopkins initially suggested 156 lbs to lure DLH into the bout. Oscar rejected and suggested 158 lbs, because he felt 156 lbs is just too close to superwelter and would be unfair. Hopkins went on record with this story.

                  Oscar is a legend.
