GGG is blasting guys but he is almost 35 and thats usually when that switch in the body and brain goes off. He wont be where he is now in 1-4 years....but he doesnt take punishment fighting the level of guys he fights. He hasnt been in any wars and besides Lee, Quillin and Jacobs, there arent many big punchers at 160.
Just curious though. How did he even earn his shot at the title?

Golovkin fights guys who are there to be hit.
You have to be " available " to land a Golovkin fight.
Boxing is all about styles/matchmaking, the insiders know whats up.
That is why they will fight Froch at 172, but wanted Andre Ward at 164.
That is why they won't even consider Lara.
And that could be why they refuse to negotiate on the weight with red.
As for Lara.... don't remember seeing him at GGG's last fight where he could demand a shot at the MW title, what gives?

The fact of the matter is that Cotto and Canelo were always going to fight. It was in the works long before they met. That Cotto had the belt is a technicality. If he would have stayed at jr. Middle he wouldn't have had it and guess what, canelo would have still fought him. Casuals are acting as if Canelo fought Cotto to get the MW belt which he didn't. If anyone had an obligation to fight GGG it was Cotto, he not Canleo that campaigned at 160.
GGG absolutely has to earn the right to fight Canelo. Canelo by his mid twenties had faced the best in his division without question. He built up his own star appeal by fighting top opposition win or lose. He has headline his own successful ppv as the main attraction. GGG is almost 35 and is still, still feeding on Friday night fighters and he is expecting Canelo to boost his profile why? Because he has a belt that he never campaigned for or even wanted? If he is who he says he is he would have accepted Lara's challenge, or Ward or Degale and stop feeding off these fragile no name fighters.
It's evident they tried to Tyson hype GGG by feeding him sheep and then try and force legitimate superstars into money fights with him regardless of the fact that he himself isn't a draw. He should grow some balls, start fighting guys his own size, that are higher than mid level contenders. Martin Murray is his best win Martin Murray, let that sink in.
GGG will fight another Friday night fights level opponent while canelo gets superstar checks for superstar fights.

I didn't think it would come to this even though people like Dan Rafael have been saying it for a while.
I didn't think it would because ITS SUCH AN OBVIOUS DUCK, maybe the most obvious one in this boxing generation.
Usually guys can get away with a duck by having different promotors, or saying they are too big for the weight class, and then moving up to avoid a fight, but this, Canelo has no excuse, and especially to give up a belt outside of the ring, it's just such a huge and obvious duck.

Ward/Kov great, GGG/Ward great, GGG/Canelo? Exciting fight who we already know the winner. Lets get GGG/Lara, GGG/Degale, GGG/Jacobs. These are the good matchups. GGG/Canelo is a big money fight, that is all.
FWIW I think GGG beats Lara without too much trouble but at least it offers some intrigue - how will the styles mesh? How will GGG cope with a really good mover? Jacobs too is a much more interesting fight - I also quite like GGG - BJS though I get that many of our US friends aren't really sold on the kid yet.
Then - yeah - absolutely SMW has to beckon. I'll be very disappointed if GGG doesn't look to move up in weight once the MW title confusion is cleared up one way or another.

It is painfully obvious what GGG is doing. He comes in at the age of 33 and starts trying to demand fights with guys that were grinding for years prior to him arriving to be able to get money fights.
There are levels to boxing, you reach a certain stage where with your promotion and production you demand big fights. Thats how it works, and GGG came in late in his career beat a bunch of no name barely pros and starts throwing out demands to fighters like Canelo, Froch, Floyd, guys that put in the work and are at a level where their fights command top dollar.
GGG is nowhere in Canelo's stratosphere and he could knock out 100 more homeless guys and he still wouldn't be. He is just now earning what Quillen has been getting for many fights prior to getting stopped by Jacobs. Saunders was making more until GGG last fight. He is trying to pull guys on the upward end of their earning potential into the ring with him as he is their equals and demanding equal terms and pay??? GTFO!
With the way that boxing works, this is a very dangerous game GGG is playing because if Canelo really wanted to he could freeze GGG out completely. He is the big money guy, he could officially move to middleweight schedule his next three fights with Saunders, Jacobs, and Eubank jr. and have them all take gimme fights in between locking there schedules up and really leaving GGG with no profile names for the better part of the next two years.
GGG holds no cards whatsover, they are trying to negotiate off of hype and it wont work.
