Indeed, however his cards are centred around what the public are prepared to pay for. Haymon completely ignored this part. No ticket sales, plummeting viewing figures while paying fighters out millions for horrible fights.

There was only one way it could go, the downturn for W&R speeded it up.

I'm not sure Haymon was ever bothered about it either, the more he pays the fighters, the more he gets himself from his cut. It has always made personal sense for him to overpay fighters, he probably regrets he didn't pay them (i.e. him) even more out of the investors money.

Now he's back with Sho, and will still get his cut, but at least there he has to put on match-ups the fans are half-interested in.

Arum told ESPN's Dan Rafael at the time that before he left Mayweather had asked, among other things, for a $20 million guaranteed purse to fight Oscar De La Hoya.

"He wants $20 million for the De La Hoya fight? It's not there. Sometimes, my man, you gotta know when to hold 'em and when to fold 'em. We'll talk about things down the road," Arum said.

A year later, Mayweather made $25 million in a fight against De La Hoya that still holds the record for total pay per view buys.

So where did the extra money come from? Bob said it wasn't there. Did it magically appear out of nowhere?

Arum said he was simply not interested in participating in a De La Hoya-Mayweather fight, but not because of his distaste for De La Hoya.

"I don't want to, because if I did that fight, I would be working for such a small percentage, it's not worth it," he said.

The money was there. Greedy Bob. Last in the ring. First to get paid

Haymon has a history of overpaying his top fighters with no clear end game in mind. He's done it when he was doing regular business with HBO. He depleted Showtime's resources dry resulting from the network barely making any fight last year.

Bottom line is Haymon does it just for the heck of it. He does it not to make anyone happy, except his top fighters. As soon as the present investors' money get depleted, he'll turn to the next victim.

Everyone is saying Hearn is talking **** about "overpaying fighters" when they are risking health etc. What about the health of the overmatched fighters who get clowned and KO'd brutally by the carefully matched elites?

Excuses better not be "oh he got paid though" as you just argued the health of the fighter is the most important thing.

Exactly the point I've been making. Fanatics justify Haymon's overpaying of his top fighters for fighting cab drivers, then cite the health risks involved. But what about the cab driver, who gets paid significantly less? His life doesn't matter?

He beat Baldomir prior to fighting De La Hoya. He was able to make that money from having access to more revenue streams. He marketed himself well during the build up to the fight which carried over after he beat De La Hoya.
you mean 10 mil guaranteed. look it up. he even said so and then asked for 30mil guaranteed for the rematch that never happened

He's right, if you are getting paid good money you should be fighting good opposition.

The Fox card this weekend had some good KO's but the card was almost done with over an hour to spare..... People will tune out because there is no real reason to watch.
