Is it my fault he chose to fight Khan? No, he should be fighting someone like Rosado or Curtis Stevens. I would have been OK with that, get his feet wet at 160.

I like Golovkin but some of his more rabid, overzealous fans need to chill the hell out.

It's too early for Canelo-GGG fight to happen right now because Canelo has never fought above 155 lbs, he's not a true MW. Canelo needs a few tune-up fights to transition to 160 lbs before he takes on a juggernaut in GGG so the fight can be fair and even for both fighters. I don't know why some dummy boxing fans still haven't grasped this concept yet.

Canelo was chasing a Cotto fight for YEARS, since long before Cotto accidentally picked up the MW belt due to the fact that Martinez' leg fell off.

Beating an old 153lb JMW, miraculously transformed Canelo into a middleweight contender according to those ass-hats..... simply because Canelo beat Cotto in a highly anticipated money-fight.

Now we got posters categorically stating that 155 is JMW..... oh wait, except when it comes to Golovkin of course..... middleweight is 160 when discussing Golovkin, and middleweight is 155 when discussing Canelo.

And then of course we have the rehydration-weight clowns, who are largely the same spastics mentioned above..... they have no concept of the fact that the total amount of functional muscle-mass and conditioning that you can take into a fight is determined at the official weigh-in..... oh no, they think that water-weight counts as "preparation", and they do not understand that Canelo will be much stronger at 160.

They are largely the same ass-hats who messed up this site for 5 years over the Mayweather/Pacquiao mess..... go figure.

Because Gennady simply MUST be great..... fighters like Mayweather / Cotto / Canelo / Ward / Lara / etc..... are all cowards and bums. Did I forget anyone?

Hey, I'm a fan, not a pro boxing journalist. I don't keep records or dossiers of what happens behind the scenes, just read about it and then move on. Sometimes I don't remember everything I read with 100% accuracy, but that's not the same as telling lies.

So I made a couple of errors in what I wrote: 80k, not $1million, was the step aside fee paid by Cotto to GGG and nobody actually sued Cotto, though GBP and Canelo both talked about doing it for the reasons I gave in my post: Cotto got a bigger share of the purse because it was a title fight and he was the champion during the negotiations.

The original point of my comments remains valid - word titles matter to boxers and to their promoters, because they bring in money and viewers.

If the belt didn't matter why did Cotto pay GGG to step aside so he could remain as WBC champion till the purse was agreed and the tickets sold for his fight with Canelo?

If the title doesn't matter why are Canelo and Oscar going to such crazy lengths to try and keep hold of it right now?
