    The Span of Floyd's Prime

    Where is the range?

    imo Ndou-Marquez.

Ndou was his most balanced blend of defense and offense. That night in his hometown of Grand Rapids Floyd was doing triple right hands at range, body punching inside, and shoulder rolling all over the ropes.

During this time span we witnessed many Floyds:

*Zab Judah got the combination punching pressure fighter Floyd

*Oscar was outboxed by the potshot artist Floyd

*Hatton got broken down and beat up by the dirty inside fighter Floyd

*Marquez was cleaned out by a master outfighter Floyd

There's a real notable decline in his speed in the fights after Marquez.

Following the Cotto fight Floyd no longer performed with the same love for boxing. The one exception being the Alvarez match.

    You're talking nonsense.

Floyd has ALWAYS been in his prime, since the day he started boxing. He fights exactly the same way he did in his lower weight days as he does now.

The way he fought Gatti is the same way he fought Canelo..............

I think it ended with Marquez but I'm in the minority there, most people say Hatton. I believe he was at his absolute best at 140, more balanced between speed and power.

Floyd was a PED machine and paid off USADA to keep in his prime

It interesting because his masterpiece Corrales fight was well before priming.

Style is not prime what the hell are talking about , prime is your very best period of time when you are at your very best , its going nothing to with your style .

I would say Floyds athletic prime years was from 130 to JMM , after that Floyd started slowing down and became a more mature fighter using his brain to compensate for a decline in his athletic ability .

Prime is a slow process transitioning from learning peaking and maturing its not so easy to define actual prime , technically it could be one night when everything was running at its absolute peak .

I would say from 98-2005.. Once he went to welter, he wasn't as explosive and was much more tactical..

Floyd was an extremely explosive puncher from 130-140. His prime is bookended by the beatings of genaro and gatti..

When he returned in 2009 his killer instinct was drastically lower.

Against Hatton, he was pushing the fight, looking to do serious damage. The 8th round was a beat down.

He still had somewhat killer instinct until Cotto, after that fight it was completely gone.

To answer the question, I would say 2007. He wasn't at his absolute physical peak but he was close to it with 10 years experience behind him. To me that was Mayweather's best.

His prime ended when he was rocked by Castillo. Prior to that his KO ratio was pretty decent.
