I agree GGG is growing in popularity. I have seen nothing to suggest he's more popular globally, but his problem is he's operating in a marketplace thats largely based on the opinions of Americans who often have some Latin heritage & the appeal they fund in things they spend their money on.

I myself question if GGG can make 155. I think most ignore or don't know he was competing in his last few years as an amateur at the 165 division & he's never weighed that low as a pro. I don't think most fans care about that. Canelo & Canelo's fans will control the narrative of why this fight didn't happen & most people who are indifferent to all this will side with them just from that being the consensus like it or not.
Golovkin can fill stadiums in the US, and I think it's only a matter of time before that translates to good HBO PPV numbers. Becoming the only undisputed, unified champion in boxing would help him a lot there.

Even now, his fights are watched by millions on world-wide cable and PPV. I don't have numbers to compare, but I wouldn't be at all surprised if GGG/Lemieux got more international viewers than Cotto/Canelo, and Cotto is as big a name, if not bigger, than Canelo.

Golovkin is very popular in Asia, Latin America - including Mexico - Russia and the Philippines. There are a lot of people in those countries, but the 9K US fans who bought Canelo/Cotto on HBO PPV paid more money to watch that fight than all the millions who watched GGG/Lemieux worldwide put together.

I have never, EVER, referred to the race of a member here except in response to people assuming I am white and accusing me of being racially biased in my comments.

This happens every time I say anything in any thread involving GGG and Ward.

Did I mention the race of anybody who is criticising GGG in this thread, for instance?

Nobody was talking about race until you jumped in with it, as ****ing usual.

LMFAO! You found one online bookie who was offering 100-1 against Wade and you've been running around with it like a happy puppy dog with a bone ever since!

Curb your excitement for a second and remember ... Paul Smith was hand picked and dragged up from 168 to fight Ward.

GGG is only fighting Wade because he will lose his IBF belt if he doesn't.

            2) Canelo is weighing-in @ 155, the exact same as Oscar De La Hoya. Canelo was probably 170 on fight night when he fought Floyd, but that didn't stop Floyd from fighting him. Champs fight bigger people sometimes (Floyd). Champs fight smaller people sometimes (B-Hop). This is what champs do!

            3) GGG does NOT have to accept Canelo's terms. However GGG will never be on the same level as B-Hop, Mayweather, Cotto, or Pacquiao, if he doesn't fight somebody with a resume ASAP!

            4) If GGG wants to stick around at 160 and wait for Canelo, that's his decision, but we can stop with all the talk of "anyone from 154-168" especially when somehow GGG seemed to miss the chance to fight Ward and Canelo.
Well said! At least their finally admitting Canelo is the A-Side. And it is up to Canelo. Question is how bad does GGG want the fight??? Does he want to PROVE he's great or is he content on fight cab drivers Canelo has PLENTY of options. He can fight the winner of Peterson/Thurman. Andrade. Either Charlo brother. Brook.ALL on PPV.

Who does GGG have left??? Jorge Heiland, Gran Turino?? Colonel Saunders???? None WORTHY of PPV

Idek what you are arguing. I'm not saying GGG isn't popular. I'm saying Canelo is more popular. And he's more popular in the US with a strong Mexican fan base where a lot of the money in boxing comes from on this side of the globe. Canelo is already #11 on the most PPV buys in history list with 3.7M buys. GGG has 150k career PPV buys (or there about I think he did some minor PPV's that I've never seen #'s on). Cmon brother its not even disputable Canelo has higher ground here.

Maybe GGG CAN be bigger than Canelo. The hard reality for GGG & you apparently is he isn't bigger than Canelo where it matters in Las Vegas, Nevada @ the MGM Grand in 5 months. Wade isn't gonna be the win that pushes GGG over Canelo I'm willing to bet.

No matter he did or didn't do, those clowns would keep coming back posting garbage about him. In the real world, nobody is going to dog Golovkin about not accepting a catchweight from Canelo, even if they know about it.

Golovkin's popularity is growing steadily. By the end if the year he could be a bigger name, globally, than Canelo, if he isn't already.

Golovkin would be crazy to fight a naturally bigger, but younger man, after draining himself down to 155.

Draining yourself for a smaller man is one thing, doing the same for a bigger man, who is young enough to cut a lot of water weight then rehydrate within 36 hours without weakening himself, is something else again.
There is no CW to accept. Canelos coach said, some day, down the line

We went over this, moron. It just means the bookies think Ggg is that much better than Ward at 172.

It's not a contest anyway, so what's your point? That anything goes when one guy is more popular?
