I absolutely love Spence, but why the double standard?

One is a prospect and one is a world champion with numerous title defenses. 5 or 6 years ago there wasn't much criticism.

Now if Spence goes on a streak of underwhelming opposition I guarantee you the criticism will come.

Spence is viewed as a prospect with the expectation that he'll step up his level of competition. Golovkin is a 34 year old veteran who people are hailing as one of the best in the business.

Career wise GGG has already had a nice career at MW. He's done more than Geale, Sturm, Quillin, etc. Basically, outside of Sergio Martinez he's been by far the most prolific MW since. The Ward callout is completely irrelevant. He fought recently for the first time in what seemed like ages. Anyone who takes a non-active fighter's side on wanting a smaller man to move up for him and give up all advantages is silly. People want GGG to fight Ward but we can't even get Ward to face someone in his own weight class without "tune ups"....not that I didagree though..but yeah. Stop, please. Ward and GGG was never going to happen. Ever. We can go back and forth for ever "oh but GGG said he'd fight at 168" or "oh GGG needs to test himself and move UP to 68 (contradiction...) ", "on but GGG has never been at 168 and Ward has fought at both 160 and light heavy!" Every excuse is ******ed. GGG is too small. Ward is too big. They've always been at LEAST 8 pounds away with only Ward having cleared his division.

Spence is an up and comer in his weight division. GGG is the best in his. But there is that bit of double standard... Geale, Lemieux, Martin are SIGNIFICANTLY better at MW than Algieri is..well...anywhere. GGG only gets called a hype job by insecure Ward fans. Not sure why, since Ward is an amazing talent in a different division but it happens. The psycho GGG fans act like GGG already beat every great fighter to ever exist also.

            What Hype For Spence Jr?

It is just now starting to come because when he stepped up he looked Impressive. But it hasn't been any hype for Spence Jr. He is rarely talked about on this forum! Spence Jr is EARNING his HYPE it is not being GIVEN TO HIM by a Network as a Ratings Ploy like HBO is doing with GGG and other fighters

All I know is I'd loved to see malignaggi sacrificed to spence for our viewing pleasure.

Your comparison says it all really. You are putting Golovkin's quality of opposition in the same sentence as that of a prospect who is starting to step up for the first time.

If Spence beats Brook in his next fight that will already be better than any accomplishment in Golovkin's entire career. Which is embarassing.

If spence just keeps beating up guys he's clearly better than instead of taking on top 3 guys, people will start calling him a hype job as well.
You can't really blame Golovkin for that since many of the top MWs have been ducking him.

But here is the double standard. GGG has been looking sensational for the last few years in dispatching opponents. Fighting from the outside, inside, going upstairs, going downstairs, cutting off the ring, using array of punches but yet people say GGG is a hype job, over rated, he is nothing but Kelly Pavlik or Arthur Abraham.

I don't get it? Help me understand the logic?
Golovkin is no Abraham, Abraham wasn't a coward.

Spence is also 8 years younger. He could have 30 fights in that time.
