HBO trying to make Ward vs. Pascal

HBO has been attempting to arrange a split site doubleheader:

Ward vs. Pascal from Oakland, plus

Kovalev vs. Alvarez, from Montreal.

Proposed date is June 25.

Thoughts?

IMO, Ward vs. Pascal is a waste of time. Pascal has one win (a very shaky one, at that) in his last four fights and has no business in the ring with one of the P4P best in the sport.

Kovalev continues to be a man without a home...or at least a man without a home market in which he sells tickets.

In any event, doubtful that Alvarez gives up his mandatory position to the WBC belt and a shot at the lineal title to take on Kovalev for short money, so this one is probably dead in the water.

Kovalev is traveling to fight Alvarez? Alvarez does numbers like that in Montreal?

No he doesnt but Kovalev has a fan base here in Montreal since he beat up Pascal twice.

Ward should fight somebody better than Pascal is right now. Right now Pascal is double Kovalev leftovers twice KOed by Kovalev.

Pascal will always be a money fight in Montreal. Doesn't matter who he fights. They love the guy.

And I don't know why Stevenson would rather fight Karpency type opponents when the money fight is in his own backyard. He even gets mad when Pascal tried to make the fight.

This would have to be PPV wouldn't it? I find it hard to believe HBO would pay $4+ million that would be needed for these guys to fight on WCB.

Ehh, not necessarily a fight I want to see but if it means getting Kovalev-Ward in by the end of the year or the beginning of next year I'm all for it.

I'd hope Stevenson fights Alvarez. Thats one of the few legit opponents he gots on "his side".

That said I don't hate this card while not being excited for it to any degree if it were to happen. I understand promoters feel marinating is a big part of making a fight big still (I think they are wrong, but their the ones with skin in the game). So if Kovalev needs to stay busy & Ward needs another fight to feel more confident I think these are decent enough opponents.
