I think HBO will come around eventually but ST would be foolish if they wouldn't work with him if it makes them money. Unless Haymon pays ST directly just to not have Arum on.

How about Arum uses him $$$$ to make this fight. Tired of this old weasel try to dupe fans and make excuses on why such and such fight didn't happen. Use some of that $$$$ you rob from Pacquiao all these years to make this mega fight happen.

I swear man it's hard to defend the sport of boxing anymore. It's become a joke, got to go to hell and back just to make a fight these days and by the time the bell rings for the fights we've been clamoring for they suck.

if It's 2mil for that fight, I'd assume it's another million putting it on, promoting it and paying the undercard yeah?

So we need to make 3mil back to break even.
Assuming the PPV is 60 bucks and cable company takes half that
        3,000,000/30 = 100k

So by my pathetically simplistic calculations, it would have to do 100k to break even. No way it does that. I think 30-50k would be the best it would do, especially if HBO isn't running promos for it.

Stick to the black only pbc run by a black man

Good for PBC. I want a boxing league. If that means seeing things like this, and promotional companies failing/disappearing, then I'm all for the bigger picture. It might take a while though, the UFC took almost two decades to take full strength (one decade if you count from the point Dana took over).

Top Rank has torched their bridge to Showtime/CBS ages ago, the folks at Showtime likely still hold most of that grudge, and Showtime is now in the position that they don't have to deal with folks disrespecting them.

Why would Showtime go into their pocket to pay up for a single card, with an explicit understanding that doing so will not garner them anything beyond airing one show? Especially without any even implied options on Lomachenko.

I can buy those numbers more or less. I think 100k+ is doable for this fight doe. In particular if they throw some solid Mexican prospects on the undercard that'll draw in that strong Mexican fanbase.

Was just looking into this sorta thing & found Mosley talking about he needed 50k buys for the Mayorga bout to break even. The PPV price was $50. Mosley made $500k & Mayorga got $250k so that would leave $500k for advertising & etc expenses after the cut to the cable provider.

I would throw in gate money which should be a solid $300k-$500k+ which should make the PPV buys number lower. And I don't have a clue how much one could make with sponsors, but that would surely reduce the number needed to break even to. So I think 100k is a safe high estimate to break even. I'd just argue its a doable number.

People love bringing up other PPV's unlikely success by throwing out GGG's first PPV, but the reality is few to none saw that fight as a competitive matchup & everyone just wanted/have wanted to see GGG vs Canelo/Cotto/Sergio all f#cking ready so I'd argue GGG suffered with his PPV numbers cuz of other dynamics than his own PPV appeal. Now I don't think he's some huge draw cuz I think being popular on HBO vs being popular enough to get people to spend $50+ on you is two different things, but if GGG had had his PPV ******ity taken by Canelo, Cotto or Sergio or anyone else deemed a competitive challenger for GGG I think GGG isn't the laughing stock of PPV that he currently is. I say all that to say I think Loma vs Walters is seen as a highly competitive fight that hardcore fans would jump on in a much more appreciative fashion than they jumped on GGG vs that guy about to get KTFO as most saw that fight being.

Why would Showtime be foolish? They still have a great relationship with Al Haymon, the Ruslan Provodnikov move essentially brought Banner Promotions/Star Boxing into the Showtime fold, they're regularly delivering compelling ShoBox cards with quality prospects, and the return of Showtime International (to carry the Matchroom shows that have US interest).

Top Rank is up ****'s creek.
