lol. Also, the premise that HBO "lost millions" on a PPV (not a paid rights-fee scenario) is absurd. Now if HBO had guaranteed K2 350k buys or something, that would be one thing, but if I recall correctly HBO did not guarantee K2 a minimum number of buys period, so id love to hear how they "lost millions" lol

"more than any previous GGG fight" doesn't mean that the sponsors through $2m or $3m at the fight; sponsors could've easily put $700k towards the GGG fight, rather than $500k, and you could spin the same story.

PPV is generally where most of the money comes in on these big fights, and Golovkin-Lemieux, almost regardless of what the real number ended up being, brought in maybe $2m off of the PPV. You then figure the live gate weighed against the costs of staging the fight, and the path to netting even $4m on the event gets dicier.

K2 is in the Golovkin business but, at some point, he's got to bring some profits to the company.

The Lemiux fight likely didn't lose money but not being the book keeper for the fight my understanding that it did this

Live gate profits - $2,000,000
PPV sells in the US alone 150k or 97k depends on who you beileve (lets take worst case scenario and say 97k) - 97kX$20 (after cable providers took their cut) = 1.94 million
Canadian PPV sells - don't now
sponsorship - don't know
international TV licensing profits - dont know
merchandise sells - dont know

So based on what we know, the worst it could have done is broken even. likely this event however had profits exceeding 1-2 million.
