SALUTE WBC... Your corrupt in your own ways but this was a bold move and it protects the up and coming amateurs from a not needed beat down. Hard enough to win any medal in olympics as it is but adding seasoned pros and world champs would have been a disaster for the new crop.Comment

Duplicitous or not, this is a move that I applaud.
Whilst it would be somewhat intriguing to see if the current crop of past prime pros could handle the pace of the amateur game (Klitchko outpointing someone on punches landed!?!) if they did well it would open the door for prime professionals taking sabaticals to compete in the Olympics. I find that morally dubious.
How would they be selected? Would they automatically take the place of someone who's dedicated years of their life without financial rewards to making it onto an Olympic squad?
Are those who've been fighting on a monthly basis and staying in shape year round in single minded pursuit of their goal supposed to just **** off 'cause a prizefighter's bloated ego has had an afterthought in between his two fights a year that he'd like a piece of the action?
What about the trainers and clubs that bring the youngsters through or work with seasoned amateurs for little pay? Where's the incentive to put in all that work if a pro can waltz in last minute and render it all for nourt.
This isnt like the other sports where they've allowed a number of pros to compete. Amateur and Professional Boxing are separate sports with different rules and regulations. Many boxers at the Olympics have no intention of turning professional. They dedicate their lives to the amateur game. For a professional to come in and snatch away their chance at achieving in their chosen sport is wrong.
Any world class pro that steps back into the amateurs at a youngsters expense is lacking respect.Comment

Not only is it morally ****** but who wants to see watered down/short fights from the big name pro's? and who makes all the money?...AIBA and the Olympic committee??? in the spirit of amateur sport..yeah ok.Comment

I know in some olympic sports, some professional players have been allowed (such as soccer which limits 3 pro per team) while the big exception is basketball allowing complete teams of pro players (such as the "dream" team with NBA stars mainly because during summer the league is off). In terms of real competition having the BB "dream" team has zero enigma since practically everybody knows what squad has the biggest chance to get gold. I guess AIBA wants to create something similar here, were people would expect a famous pro boxer to get all the marbles (doing nothing to promote real competition). But I guess, this is the way many fans like the sport of boxing: producing often the maximum number of mismatches while avoiding the most likely competitive and disputed fights. That is why we get nowadays a lot of boxing "champions", "undefeated" records and specially very poor spectacle hyped by the media.Comment
