Tournaments (like the olympics) where all the top boxers from every country fight each other would be fantastic.

Historically it's always been for up and comers. You also have to take into account AIBA's stance you can't dismiss it like a bunch of dinosaurs and a herd of sheep. Majority of other sports in the Olympics feature Professional athletes. I 100% agree that it will have dangerous implications if we actually see a Pro fight an AM but the games are meant to feature the ELITE athletes, the games isn't a nursery.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't it the WBC that literally manufactures alternate belts in order to collect fees?

The olympic with elite pros would have crazy potential in boxing....the AIBA are rushing it this time....with 4 years notice, i don't see why not to allow it in the 2020 games.

The WBC is always going against anything that they can't profit off of. Remember the whole, "WBC champs have to vacate other sanctioning body belts or relinquish the WBC belt"? This is no different. They can't make any money off the Olympic fights, so they're basically giving their fighters no option, but to accept or be pigeonholed from WBC rankings/belts.

On another note, I agree that having seasoned pros fight young amateurs is a bad idea. Those kids will get demolished, BUT Olympic boxing would be pretty damn exciting.

WBC stock just went up for me. While I was admittedly excited about watching pros in the Olympics, after reading this, this posture makes much more sense, and you have to respect the firm position. I love it.

As someone else already said, other sanctioning bodies should follow suit.

i agree....

furthermore, the wbc will be going against the interests of both the boxer (who wish to represent his country), and the country (that wish to send that boxer) to the games...

the above i think is something the wbc failed to consider...
