Bottom Line. Do you think GGG can beat Canelo at 155?

PAC drained cotton 2lbs. Nelo wants to drain 5lbs. Why not to get ball rolling request 157, and a good result and compromise would prob be 158.Comment

Canelo's already Lineal and has been. Doubt he has interest in the belts.Cause Canelo would want something GGG has: the 3 belts, and rep for dominance in Canelos real weight class. Or he can go back to 155-6 and wait till GGG moves up after unifying the belts and breaking Hopkins' defense record (kinda). But you'd think he's got higher aspirations
He's the A side by a wide margin. Golovkin's been on PPV once and done 150 K.
Canelo's done 350 K twice, 2.2 million, 900k and his upcoming fight with Khan will likely do solid numbers.
The belts and records (not a real record because he hasn't been full champion for a number of those defendes) mean little, all that really matters is who the bigger draw is and that's Canelo.Comment

I don't dispute the absurdity of the situation however I'm laying out the facts here.
If Canelo continues to compete within the MW limit he's the Lineal Champion there until someone beats him.Comment

Well that could be because Canelo cuts/drains more weight unnecessarily. If he's 170+ on fight night, why is he draining himself down to 155 only to pack on 15+lbs overnight?Well Canelo detractors say he is big and that he weighs 170 on fight, and that he is a MW. So if he's the same size as GGG, and Canelo can make 155, then why can't GGG make it if they are the same size? I mean that is rhetorical question, they are not actually the same type of weight. GGG is a lean muscle 160, Canelo would need to gain more muscle to get to 160 healthy(not bloated). When they weigh 170 on fight night, they are a different 170, Canelo has more water weight, Golovkin has more muscle.
Lately it has been 170lbs. It was 173 for Rubio, 170 against Monroe, for Lemieux he was 170 according to HBO commentators.
There's no way that anyone can tell me that draining down to 155 benefits Canelo some way other than to impose that same weight on the fighters in his own weight class in an attempt to weaken them.
If Canelo feels that he's not a legit MW then he should take his red headed azz back down to 154.Last edited by Deevel916; 03-03-2016, 12:58 PM.Comment

A true champion can only be the true champion by beating the best in the division. Once they refuse to do that then they cease to be the true champion. That is a fact.
Let me ask you this. If Kovalev went up to cruiserweight and won the title at 192. Thereafter he continued to fight only at 192 and feasted on blown up lhw and other lower tier cruiserweights who were willing to fight him at 192. Because of his stance on weight, fights with guys like huck, kalinga, drozd, usyk, and whoever the number one contender may be, don't get made. Do you still think he'd be the lineal champ? Why would you still be the lineal champ if you are not fighting the best?
There is more to the lineal champ than just beiating the man who beat the man. You have to beat the next man in line.Last edited by El-blanco; 03-03-2016, 01:03 PM.Comment

That is extremely far from a fact.A true champion can only be the true champion by beating the best in the division. Once they refuse to do that then they cease to be the true champion. That is a fact.

All the Lineal Champion is is beating the man who beat the man. That's literally all it is.
You cease to be the Lineal Champion two ways, by losing it or retiring.
If Canelo continues to compete within the MW limit then he's the Lineal MW Champion. Right or wrong it's as simple as that.
The scenario you just explained for Kovalev, in that hypothetical scenario yes he would still be the Lineal Champion. If he beat the lineal Champion at 192 then he's the Lineal Crusierweight Champion until he loses itComment

The CW for Pac/Cotto was understandable as Cotto is the MUCH bigger man on fight night.
Why is Canelo who is the bigger man on fight night requesting a CW from the smaller man on fight night?Comment

If that's all it is then it's a hollow accomplishment if they don't continue to fight the number one guys and people shouldn't consider them the true champion. I personally think if the true champ/lineal champ refuses to fight his number one contender then he's no longer the true/lineal champ. That's how it was back in the day when there was only one belt. That is extremely far from a fact.

I don't think Golovkin can make either 155 or 154 healthy, he looked already very drained at weigh-ins at 159 for example... He's 33 and his body is settled at MW, he's not as buff and young like Canelo who can lose and gain lots of water weight easily...
Canelo knows this, that's why the coward is firm on 155 or no fight, and i still think that GGG would blast him even crazy drained, Canelo is hype and completely overrated, B fighter at best...
However, WBC currently said that they would still sanction the fight if Golovkin came at 160 like usual, interesting, that's what he should do, say yes to 155 and come as a MW... Canelo would probably be shocked and call the fight off, that would be laughable...
And no, Canelo is not a MW Champion, never fought a single legit MW ang got his belt from a blown-up welter... He's keeping the division hostage, that damned WBC Lineal belt is the mother of all evil at MW, it should have been awarded to Martin Murray when he did beat Martinez and got robbed, now it would already be in Golovkin's hands of course...
Reading comments saying that all that really matters is being a draw and making money, who cares about belts, what the **** really? Boxing is in a really sad state, and these "boxing fans" are not helping at all...Comment
