Bottom Line. Do you think GGG can beat Canelo at 155?

The poll is inconsistent with the boxing fan culture.
If lil G can beat Nelo at 155 then why is Loeffler, GGG and Abel criticizing 155...

Nobody is buying nelo is a top ten fighter. Beat GGG at 160 and you will be. Go for it, you know it makes sense. Yoiuve no zero to protectComment

Age. Ggg can - apparently - the make 154, but at 33/34 would not be able to healthily dehydrate / rehydrate as much as the younger Canelo. Using his normal 10lb rehydration as a guide at a 155 cw he'd likely come to the ring around 165, giving up maybe 7 or 8lbs on fight night. I still think ggg would win - to my eyes theres a substantial skill gap, but it's boxing, theres a lot of variables and it would be foolish to concede an advantage to an opponent unless you really have to. Bottom line I'm not expecting this fight to happen even if ggg were to agree to 155, but if it does i'd guess it'll be 157.Well Canelo detractors say he is big and that he weighs 170 on fight, and that he is a MW. So if he's the same size as GGG, and Canelo can make 155, then why can't GGG make it if they are the same size? I mean that is rhetorical question, they are not actually the same type of weight. GGG is a lean muscle 160, Canelo would need to gain more muscle to get to 160 healthy(not bloated). When they weigh 170 on fight night, they are a different 170, Canelo has more water weight, Golovkin has more muscle.
Lately it has been 170lbs. It was 173 for Rubio, 170 against Monroe, for Lemieux he was 170 according to HBO commentators.Comment

Canelo wouldn't need to gain anything to fight at 160.
He'd just have to cut less weight. It would be healthier for him to actually fight at the MW limit.Comment

that's exactly the difference between canelo and ggg, canelo can fight nonames(see lara) on ppv and make a good profit, ggg cant... only one side needs the other...Firstable, 155 is not an actual weight class, so this 'he's comfortable at that weight' BS holds no merit. He might be boxing's biggest star, but he's not big enough to create his own weight class.
Secondable, Canelo is the MW champ (on paper at least) Golovkin is his mandatory. Fighting at the full MW limit isn't giving your opponent an advantage, it's how things work in boxing. Or at least used to work.
As for Canelo not needing Golovkin I don't think that's entirety true. Other than him, who else he has to fight? Cotto he already beat, other Middleweights aren't PPV worthy opponents. Golovkin is a star and one of the most known fighters around that weight class. Even Canelos hardcore Mexican fans aren't that ****** and will keep buying his BS PPV fights for only so long.Comment

We've also missed out that one can easily drain down to 155, being 25 years old, and the other would have more difficulty doing so at 33.Well Canelo detractors say he is big and that he weighs 170 on fight, and that he is a MW. I don't agree fully that Golovkin is more muscle. He was 165lb at the 30day weigh in for Lemieux. 170 on fight night to me then indicates water weight too..Comment

This fight should not be looked at in isolation. Going down in weight is detrimental for GGGs further career. This is if he wants to move up eventually. And to the lesser degree - even if he plans to stay at 160. Regarding the poll question - I didn't answer, because I'm not interested in finding out how it will be at 155. This will be severely depleted Golovkin - whether or not it will be enough for Canelo to prevail - I don't know and frankly don't care. This fight should be made at division limit, or Canelo shall vacate.
I suspect that Canelo himself will be not 100% at this weight, he is growing. All the more reasons to make it at the proper MW limit. As of now, catchweight demand is a roadblock, DLH building in order to prevent this fight from happening.Last edited by mick1303; 03-03-2016, 09:19 AM.Comment
