The reasoning for the catchweights is exactly the same. You can try and justify it by saying "he's a mandatory" yes he's a mandatory, but most boxing fans say the orgs are corrupt and meaningless until it suits them. "He's fighting at 155 which is middleweight" true but little G has also fought above 160 if you check his record. What's different is one was willing to fight other fighters at a higher weight and asked for a CW for one guy.

How do you know that team GGG didn't ask 164 first for Froch and Chavez Jr? They wanted to start negotiations with Ward with 164 50/50 offer, expecting something like 168 60/40 back, instead Ward said no and disappeared, making a laughable offer only when Golovkin had already signed for Lemieux, so he had to decline obviously...

157 is not out of the question, in fact Loeffler said they'd consider a CW but not while Canelo is MW champ. If he was coming up in weight, offered 157 and 50/50 to B aide champ, they wouldn't think twice

The more I read about it I don't believe Canelo will fight him unless it is 155. I read their sparring reports and baring in mind they were both heavier than their fight weights GGG gave the guy hell.

Canelo knows this is a fight he can not win on an level playing field. 155 I'm not sure how it favours him but he is consistent at his 'Caneloweight'. I don't see this fight happening at any other weight than 155, to think the WBC will strip him is absurd but then I'm sure they can come to an agreement upon GGG vacating the division and gifting a WBC title to Canelo afterwards.

I expect GGG to meet his demands failing we'll likely see Cotto and Canelo fight again, WBC or no WBC I really doubt Canelo cares one iota.
