It's beyond hypocritical for the Triple Duck to ask Ward for a 164lb catchweight in one breath only to turn around and refuse to fight Alvarez @ 155lbs. Anyone who would justify this type of hypocrisy only proves themselves to be a fanboi and nut guzzler...
When there are two guys in the same division and they should be fighting, a catchweight should not be necessary, especially one so low that it's only a pound above the previous division.
However, all throughout boxing history, we've had champions from lower divisions moving up to fight guys in a higher division at a catchweight, from Armstrong to Leonard. It helps close the gap in size so all that remains is the skill, talent and grit of the fighters involved, instead of there being some huge size disparity.
If Canelo is too small for middleweight, let him move back down to light middle where he can fight guys like the Charlo brothers or Andrade instead of masquerading as a middleweight champion.

It depends what the circumstances are.
Sometimes they're good for boxing, sometimes they're bad.
A traditional CW is for fighters of different divisions who can meet to make a great fight.
Canelo's CW demand is complete BS. He's the lineal champ, he's previously weighed 172 on fight night, and GG's his mandatory.Last edited by robertzimmerman; 02-25-2016, 01:22 PM.
