Said it would be lucrative for Wilder but as dirty as Russia is i would have to think about it.

From RUSDA being busted and not a member but the entire division to the higher ups and theres other doping scandals, dont know if i would.

I don't understand yours and other's doubts. What is the worst case scenario here? That Wilder is stung by the judges? Povetkin is on Roids and wins. Wilder gets framed for doping?

What is the upside here? Even if the purse bid is relatively low - like $10 million, and even after all expenses Wilder still has $4-5 million in his bank account.

He can still come again at 30 years of age if he loses - meanwhile he has life changing money. And that is all only if he loses - what if he wins? What if he is framed and WADA dismisses the results - all upside.

This is the fight they've wanted the whole time and never ever delayed at all by asking for multiple voluntaries when they knew Povetkin was next in line since May and was scheduled to headline a show in November.lol

This will be interesting... Now that Martin is fighting Joshua I don't see that scenario people were talking about. The scenario that had Wilder vacating to fight Martin for the IBF. Wilder doesn't really have any leverage now. It's either come to a deal or go to a purse bid. I doubt Haymon will put up the type of money the Russian will. I want to see Povetkin/Wilder just as much as anyone but with all the Russia doping scandals & their drugtesting methods coming under question I don't blame Wilder for not wanting to go to Russia. Add the Oquendo fiasco to the mix along with the Syrian crisis, a trip to Russia would not be on my radar but the money could be too good to pass on. Would Wilder actually consider vacating? If he did he would lose a lot of credibility & all leverage to any super fights not to mention the massive payday that would come with the fight. Russia & Saudi Arabia are not exactly getting along & that region is pretty unstable so it wouldn't be on my radar for travel plans...

I want to see Povetkin knock out Wilder. I have nothing but respect for Povetkin especially the way he rebounded after the loss to Klitschko. He took not softies. Martin is looking for the big payday now while the going is good. I can't recall any fighter being a PPV star with only 15 wins. Martin is definitely looking to cash that 7 digit check now. Talk about a guy winning the lottery. He beat nobody to get a #2 ranking. Fury vacates the IBF title 2 weeks after winning it so it sets up Martin/Glazkov for a vacant belt which he wins without throwing a knockout blow or winning on the scorecards. He then gets a chance for a 7 digit paycheck fighting a relative novice for his 1st defence. I hope Wilder's team is hoping for that massive Russian purse bid & not looking to vacate instead of fighting. A few months ago I thought there was no way Wilder would vacate but now I'm not so sure. I expect the fight to happen.

Yes Martin got lucky. You know people would always rag on the Klitschkos but at least they fought all the best top ranked opponents the belts had to offer. This discrace to the heavy wieght devision Wilder is very bad for boxing. He has casual fans thinking he's the best and not doing anything wrong. They don't realize the guys he's fighting. Just sad.

I'd imagine Ryabinsky and his people have more moolah than Wilder and his goofballs. Certainly will be great watching Wilder slip, trip, and go into a wacko dance after Povetkin connects with a few bombs early. Wilder is so uncoordinated the first few rounds he's liable to swing at the ref or a round card lady by mistake.

The Klitschkos had a few C level defences like most HW champions. I won't call Wilder a disgrace as he has been pretty active but now it's time for the legit threats like Povetkin. Szpilka & Duhaupas are fringe guys in the top 30 so those are ok voluntaries but Molina is a C level journeyman. Chagaev defended against Matt Skelton & Carl Drumond. Maskaev defended against Peter Okello. The Klitschkos defended against Sosnowski, Pianeta & Mormeck. Tyson against Buster Douglas. Soft voluntaries are not uncommon. That is why a guy like Lennox Lewis is an ATG. His voluntaries were never soft. Briggs, Botha, Vitali, Tucker,Tyson, Golota, Rahman, McCall, Bruno... His only soft touch was his title defence against Phil Jackson who was 30-1 at the time. 7 out of the 10 voluntaries were former world champions. Povetkin did the same thing as Wilder when he held that phoney regular belt. Instead of going right after Wlad he fought Boswell, Wawrzyk & washed up Rahman plus he passed on a mandatory shot before he won the WBA regular trinket. So Povetkin is no better when it comes to softies his first go around with a trinket...

The upshot to that is if Wilder can pull it off the money will be made back rather quickly, but it would be a gamble.

I think this could be on point. Marco Huck said Ryabinsky got broke not that long ago & had a fight with PBC instead of World of Boxing which says maybe Ryabinsky learned his lesson in that Klitschko vs Povetkin purse bid situation where he payed 2x, 3x (iirc) what the 2nd best bid was which was a lil nuts. I don't think its farfetched both sides are playing a game of chicken with various details with this fight.
