What has that got to do with Golovkin wanting to fight for the MW title at the sanctioned MW limit?

Because if 145 and 150 are genuine weight-divisions, then so is 155.

Hypekin can chew lettuce, or kick rocks.

You really are a funny two-faced little individual aren't you

You're just looking at the weights without taking into account how and why those fights got made below the divisional limit.

Cotto and Margarito both willingly negotiated catchweights to make fights with Manny who was moving up from a lower division for them.

Manny has never asked for a catchweight to defend a title against a mandatory challenger.

I don't want him to take the fight at 155.

He should insist on fighting at the sanctioned weight and Canelo can take it or leave it.

Canelo would be stronger at 160 than he has ever been and it would be a much better fight than if they were both drained.

            kafkod.....

Pacquiao beat a slow, plodding, welterweight, BUM...... for a vacant JMW title..... at 150..... and then he immediately vacated.

There has never been a better example of a paper champion throughout the 100+ year history of this great sport.

None of them are actual weight divisions, and I am neither 2 faced nor little.

Ultimately, Canelo has 4 things GGG wants...the WBC belt, the lineal title, a big name for the resume, and a $$$ PPV fight. GGG gets only one of those things in the short term if he forces Canelo to vacate. Golovkin’s only card is the ability to have Canelo stripped…so his leverage really depends on how much Canelo values the belt or how bad Canelo thinks he’ll look should he vacate.

I have a hard time seeing GGG put up his MW belts @ 155, but I do think GGG knows the weight he'd feel comfortable going down to in order to make the fight happen. I also get the sense that Canelo's pride will play a part when it comes to vacating the title. So, maybe they'll meet in the middle? Golovkin comfortably makes MW so it seems he could come in 2 or 3 lbs under. If neither team is willing to budge on the weight in May, there are only 2 scenarios....

                  1) GGG’s team allows Canelo another fight with the WBC belt. At that point, they’ll try again for a unification bout with Saunders or they’ll have to find another name opponent (Jacobs, Degale, etc…) - don't think this can be perceived as a stay busy fight here. Essentially kicking the can down the road to another negotiation four or five months later.

                  2) GGG’s team has Canelo vacate. They get the belt but lose out on the name, the lineal title, and the big $$$ PPV. Now they may decide that’s fine. They’ll let Canelo fight at 155 without a title for as long as he wants and hope to get the fight in the future -- eventually, Canelo will want to fight for a belt. Of course, there’s always the possibility Saunders will accept a catchweight fight with Canelo for the WBO strap and we could very well find ourselves back at square one.

OR Kahn could throw a wrench into the whole thing. Then we'd have Floyd vs Kahn for the WBC and lineal MW title at 147. Wouldn’t that be fun?

Mmmm ... Manny didn't beat any WW for a JMW title. He beat Margarito, who was an actual JMW. Then he vacated the title. He did NOT try to hang on to it by defending at the same catchweight, so everything I said in my comment appears to be accurate.

Manny is a paper champion because he won a world title at a catchweight, and GGG is a coward because he doesn't want to fight for a world title at a catchweight ... ?

Manny won a title at catchweight then vacated it, so he was a paper champion ... ?

Canelo also won a world title at a catchweight and is trying to hang on to it by defending at that same catchweight .... but he isn't a paper champion ... ?

And ... Golovkin has to fight for a world title at a catchweight, or he's a coward ... ?

Are you on medication, mate? That's a serious question, btw.

If Canelo won't fight GGG at 160, because he claims he is not an actual MW, then he simply cannot go on calling himself the lineal MW champ. That would be absurd!

It's possible he could get a fight with Saunders after vacating the WBC. But if won the WBO title, and GGG had the other 3 belts, would Canelo's fans continue paying to watch him defend a paper catchweight title, while avoiding The Man in the division?

I can't see that happening. Golovkin is becoming too big a name himself to be sidelined and ignored like that.

I think Canelo will have to fight him, and if it's going to happen anyway, it's better for him to do it this year, as the champion, for the champion's share of the purse and with his pride and credibility still intact.
