In England cherry-picking is the norm..so I wouldn't be shocked if Joshua just fights bums for the next 10 years without fighting Haye or Fury-Wlad winner or Deontay-Pot winner etc.

They build fights against cab-drivers like they are super fights in England and super fights don't exist...

Hatton never fought what's his face..

      Khan never fought Brook

      Froch never fought Calzaghe

      it goes on and on...

I don't see Joshua fighting Haye.. too many potential injuries and insecurities to make it happen...

Haye and Fury has about much chance happening as Floyd fighting Triple G, so that means no chance..

Lol you can tell a lot of people just read the headline.

Still though McGuigan is wrong. It's the easiest opportunity he'll ever get to win a world title and as others have pointed out the IBF rankings are hardly a murderers row and I bet he'll be allowed a voluntary afterwards too. So he's not exactly going to be thrown in the deep end even if he does win the title.

If I was any heavyweight I would be wary stepping in the ring with joshua.....he's got great power, he's athletic, he's a got a pedigree pedigree and he's got size......in my eyes no one should be safe with joshua and the only way to learn is to step up....then your get even better....and every heavyweight brings differnt styles to the ring and you adapt a gameplan to deal with that style...Martin in April for the title then summer a good defence against a top 10 fighter and by the end of the year it's gonna be on to the top 5....wilder,fury,(fading) klitchko, ortiz ,Parker or povetkin...that's it so what's the problem lol

the daunted ibf rankings, teper suspended? parker is wbo ranked, glazkov injured, ustinov wba, ruiz been at the bufet table probably end up like solis. helenius, chisora and stiverne are the only potential threats there.

I see what Barry is saying but AJ has handily beat everyone to date. Nobody really knows how good Dillian Whyte is & Kingpin just came for the tea & crumpets so there are a lot of questions that need to be answered. The C level guys don't stand a chance but let's see what the B level guys can do. I consider Martin a B level guy at best as he has fought worse competition than AJ. Glazkov hurt his knee so who knows how that fight would of ended but it did look like Martin was going to be able to take Glazkov's best shots. Still if the knee don't buckle than Glazkov moves better. I agree with Barry's point of view but an argument can be made for fighting Martin as well.

                  McGuigan is 100% correct.

And the same for Parker, for the exact same reason.

Neither of those guys are ready to face the best in the division, and yet they would rightly be expected to after beating Martin, regardless of the circumstances.

If Joshua really is the goods, then there is no hurry, right?..... especially considering the vulnerabilities that McGuigan mentioned.

If he beats Martin, and then gets tipped over by Stiverne/Ortiz/whoever, his management would be rightly described as inept and would be a laughing stock for pushing him too quickly.

With a guy who is likely the real deal, you give him time because you can.

                    Exactly.

Not only will be have mandatories, he will be fair game for Fury/Wilder/Povetkin, who will view him as inexperienced and vulnerable, just like Team Joshua are viewing Martin as inexperienced and vulnerable.

If you can't handle the heat, stay out of the kitchen.

McGuigan is only suggesting that they should continue with Joshua's development FOR NOW, and look at those kind of fights down the line.

But he doesn't have to fight Fury/Wilder/Ortiz/Stiverne next. His only mandated fight would be a year from April. After his last fight Hearn said he was about 18 months away from stepping up. That would put him right on track. Beat Martin. Fight a Chisora then a bum. Fight your IBF mandatory and he's ready for big time. I don't see how winning the IBF title would derail his plans? Have you seen the IBF rankings?
