  • If you believe Canelo HAS to fight at 160 or vacate

Well normally I would say that there would be no chance of WBC stripping a mexican, but they have been fairly straightforward in this case and gives the appearance of trying to bring some integrity into their organization.

Whether they will find an excuse or not remains to be seen, but if they do they will eat a mammouth sized crow.

      • If I'm Canelo I tell this guy to fight me at 155, just like he wanted Ward to fight him at 164.

If not then go ahead and vacate. Canelo has options. GGG can go back to fighting the level of guys he usually faces, he'll never be able to make the same amount of money that he can with Alvarez.

        • The real shame is that the fight is unlikely to happen, because whether you are a GGG fan (and so have to call Canelo fans nasty names) or a Canelo fan (and so hate all GGG fans), this would likely be a genuinely great fight.

Two top fighters, both with exciting styles (unlike the Mayweather Pacman fight which was always likely to be low on genuine excitment).

You can call Canelo for trying to manipulate the limit to give himself the best chance, or you can call GGG for doing the same with Ward, or you can call Ward for doing the same to Dawson, the fact is the top top fighters are all to big an investment for their paymasters to allow them to walk into a contest without them exploring every single possible avenue that might give them an edge (and so add some insurance to their investment and continued profit).

Find me a fighter that fights for glory, and I'll show you a fighter that ain't being backed by a "top" promoter (or I will congratulate you on building a time machine to take me back a few decades!).

Such a shame, but there is more money in beating up fringe contenders for a portion of the title than risking defeat in a unification.

I think for sure the fight will happen. If not as planned this year then surely in the next year or two as Canelo outgrows his 155 lb division and has nowhere to go. I also think the mexican fans will demand the fight.

The opportunity for a FAIR offer was on the table, both guys sacrifice and compromise to bring the fight to the fans. Ward said no and walked away, that is what happened.

Who is to blame, the guy who has since moved up to 175 or the guy trying to unify his division, which is two divisions below where the former is now?

              • Im new to the forums so im not gonna say much. I do have two points though.

                1. Canelo is being a *****
                2. GGG should accept the catchweight and the payday and beat Canelo at 155

Yup! All the GREATS had to suffer/give in during negotiations at least one time or another but not GGG

                  Floyd did it for Oscar
                  Cotto did it for Pac
                  Canelo for Floyd

GGG is going to NEVER make it in the HOFame. He's a DIVA! Who won't move up, pays VERY lil to fight him, he gives you like 2 weeks to sign (If that). But THEY'RE the duckers???

GGG=SUCKERS!!! GGG resume is GARBAGE, str8t DOG SHT! Good Luck getting into the HOFame beating Mario Lemuix, and the rest of the cans.

STFU. Ward got turned down in like 30 mins flat. And they wanted to do an 80-20 split jack@ss.

Not surprising, since its been obvious for some time that your brain just doesnt function properly......

FACT: Canelo has never fought AT middleweight

FACT: Canelo has never fought A middleweight

FACT: Even Laughler himself admitted in this very article that Canelo is not a middleweight

It is plainly obvious that Canelo is a JMW who fights at 155 out of entitlement...... and judging by his 7-day weight (160), he can still make 154 EASILY.

Go check your math buddy, 160 > 155...... and if you reply quoting water-weight, or re-hydration weight, I will question your knowledge/ability as an insider.

The total amount of functional muscle-mass and conditioning that you can take into a fight is determined at the official weigh-in..... water-weight will not help at all regarding either of those things, and in some cases can even be detrimental.

Canelo trains for 155, not 160.

160 > 155..... and FK the title that Canelo accidentally picked up off Cotto, it means nothing.

You can honestly call Canelo a diva, and you can most definitely honestly call him unprofessional, no question..... but you CANNOT honestly call him a middleweight.

You are attempting to argue a technicality, but the principle is exactly the same, and so was the justification from Team Golovkin..... " A-side doe ".

Canelo should obviously drop the belt if he is not prepared to defend it at 160..... but FK Golovkin and his broken-promises and double-standards.
