I've been consistent about Barrera on here, and people can check my previous posts about him, and before he was even considered to fight Ward I felt that he wasn't that good of a fighter. Just because he's Cuban doesn't automatically assume he's great. In fact he's probably one of the weaker Cuban professional fighters out there.

I felt he dodged a bullet, actually it was more of a nuclear bomb, when Artur Beterbiev got injured and pulled out of their no.1 contender fight. Because let me tell you, if they had fought, Artur would have utterly destroyed him.

With that being said, good luck to Barrera he'll need it.

Well a few things, Ward has set expectations very low. Many expected him to fight another low ranking fighter who isnt even a light heavy. Or as I suspected file a lawsuit vs Roc Nation. Also the fact that Ward will even get in the ring again this soon is pleasantly surprising. Barera is a real light heavy and is undefeated. I think this is the explanation to some extent. Meanwhile GGG is just persecuted as usual.

Like some else said, Wars team played it perfect. They mention fights no one wanted to see and picked a fight while not great but decent and everyone is cool with.

Team GGG on the other hand mention fights everyone wanted to see but might have to settle for a fight no one wants to see although he's a decent opponent aswell.

How is it that Wade obtained the 3rd ranking in the IBF with only fighting 3 10 round fights? Also Barrera is by far the tougher fight.

It is what it is man. People just want GGG to lose all the belts for some reason, they don't want him to unify that division, no one does, it seems. They'd rather him not get this guy out of the way and get stripped of the IBF belt.

The majority of fans just don't bother with the haters and enjoy GGG's fights. The haters are getting desperate and are running scared on NSB. GGG has so many other fighters and their fanbases shook so they come up with these hate posts, that's all they got left.

ward's still rebuilding his career and tuning up for a PPV fight, and paul smith isn't going to prepare you to fight sergey kovalev. let's face it. that much inactivity can do more to hurt your career than a loss. ward needs to work to get back to where he was, if he can get back there at all.

                  he has fought 3 times since 2011. it's 2016! didn't fight at all in '14. fought once a year in '12, '13, and '15.

i don't mind either matchup, given the circumstances. i think ward and barrera is the perfect match if you want to ease ward into 175 and tune him up for kovalev. terrific matchmaking. don't watch it if you don't want to
You are one of the few Ward fans here who have a realistic take on his situation. But plenty of others talk about him as the undisputed P4P No1, and a certainty to beat Kovalev and rule LHW the way he once did at 168

Now if they really believed that, then Barerra should be an easy fight, yeah? Even easier than Wade would be for GGG?

So why are they slaughtering GGG for thinking about fighting Wade, and at the same time, praising Ward for taking on a real challenge in Barerra?

Like you, I'm ok with both match-ups. GGG is staying busy and taking care of his mando. Ward is fighting a genuine LHW with ambition and the physical tools to give him a real fight. Something I didn't believe he was ever going to do, tbh.

I'm a Ward guy, but I understand what's going on with GGG, and what's going on with him and the mandatory deal with the IBF. He wants every MW belt in the known universe, so if he doesn't he gets stripped Fine.

My only bone of contention is the thread starter throwing around Boxrec rankings.

You see, Tureano Johnson, the IBF #1 and the guy GGG was supposed to face, is ranked the 21st MW in the World by Boxrec. He gets injured. It happens.

#2 on the IBF list? NOT RATED.

So that brings us up to Wade, who is IBF #3, but Boxrec has him ranked as the 11th MW?

Maybe the guys that run the IBF and the Boxrec computer need to be locked in a room and have this shit figured out.

Well your problem is twofold. You care about bothe the IBF and boxrec ratings. Both pretty terrible. Boxrec is good for ballpark rankings, and sometimes they get it right by not abiding by lineal rules. But mostly terrible
