I think the Ring would withdraw their lineal title from Canelo if he vacates or is stripped of the WBC belt.

If they allowed him to keep it, it would be a paper title only, and that would be bad for the image of Ring magazine.

Boxing needs to be run like UFC. Had Dana White been in charge, he would have told Canelo "get in and fight or take a hike". Stripped him of his titles and sent to the back of the line to work his way back up.
