cotto cant beat any of thetop, young fighters, so the best thing to do is face a popular fighter but one like marquez who is inactive, old and small,,, therefore cotto by ko and once again people will say cotto is back

i have actually always wanted to see this fight and those saying marquez is too small the guy is 42 hes bigger then he used to be and obviously it would have to be fought at 147 to make sense but i hope they do it

promotors won't be hte only guys demanding PPV, man. so will the fighters. so doe the networks. this fight cannot be funded by an HBO fight buy. HBO pays a finite amount for fights. usually no more thaan 2 million goes to the "A side."

you're really not reading what i'm saying to you. you don't seem to care about the important reality that this fight cannot be funded by regular premium network TV money. it has to be on PPV, or it will not happen.

I totally get your point, maybe you don't get mine. Promoters, fighters, and networks made Cotto vs. Martinez and Bradley vs. Marquez both PPVs too. How did that work out? Awful PPV numbers. There's a lot of fights people want to see, but that doesn't mean they want to pay for them. Pacquiao (Roach) vs. Bradley (Atlas) is interesting, but I'm not willing to pay for it either. I would've gladly paid for Pacquiao vs. Khan, or Pacquiao vs. Broner, or Pacquiao vs. Crawford. To each his own.

You're exactly right, particularly that last sentence. This fight would do nothing for Cotto's legacy or current reputation in the sport. In that regard, it's a lose-lose proposition. Still, even though this could likely be an age and size mismatch, JMM remains hugely popular in Mexico, so I'm sure that Cotto and Freddie see this as an easy go at pretty solid money. I won't pay extra to see it, but I'd definitely watch it on HBO. It's just wishful thinking, but I sure would love to see a small, wrinkly JMM put a clinic on Cotto.

this is a competitive fight, don't believe the hype. it'd be disaster for cotto if it happens at 147.

Older, slower, smaller, is a known guy and happens to be Mexican.

Yea sounds like a perfect opponent to make money and look good against.

It seems to be that JMM's age would be a bigger factor than his size at this point.

awful numbers? cotto made 10 X for canelo than he'd get against marquez if the fight weren't on PPV. they'd split an approximately 3 million purse. i already spelled this out to you. i really don't care to have to repeat myself on here.

300K at $60 a pop is 21 million in revenue, not including gate and sponsorship, which is much higher in a ppv fight typically . 7 times the 3 million garantee of an HBO fight.

who cares if a ppv sells crap numbers if it does 10 times the revenue of a non ppv fight? starting to get it?

you don't get my point, clealry. i understand what you are trying to say, but it is wrong . it's no an opinion to say that the sky is red when it is blue. it's called being wrong.
