Marquez is still top rank? If yes , they should add Bam Bam Rios return on the undercard Rios vs Ramon Alvarez at 154

Things that are on the side of making this fight marketable: Both are first ballot hall of famers, both have strong fan basis and following, you can build it as a legend vs legend fight.

Things that are against making this fight marketable: Both are on the down side of there careers, both are getting up their in age, not sure what realistic catch weight can be made for this fight, not sure this can bring in solid pay per view numbers, also Marquez hasn't fought in a while.

While this might be a very good fight from a skills perspective, and both are true warriors. I'm not sure there's enough money in it that will make both sides happy to make this realistic.

Bad match up for Marquez. Long layoff and injuries. He will need to be on some serious roids for cotto. Alvarado put him on his butt last time they fought. Cotto will win this fight and I wouldn't be shocked if it looks like the Sergio fight. Cotto younger, bigger, stronger, healthier then Marquez.

Of course it is a perfect opponent:
--He is 42, and hasn't fought for more than year and a half now
--Cotto is normally about 10 pounds heavier or more then JMM on fight night
          --Marquez has a busted knee
--Marquez has been knocked down or almost knocked down in all his last fights, even by Bradley

If Cotto was able to knock out a much younger and heavier Sergio Martinez with similar knee issues, there's no doubt that Marquez will be even easier. So Roach is right, that's the perfect opponent for Cotto, if he wants to win against a legend. But defeating an over the hill opponent who is semi-crippled, much smaller in size and hasn't fought for awhile now, won't really do much for Cotto's legacy, will it?

I can't lie, I would definitely pay for this fight. it would be fireworks and great clash of styles no matter the age, both are not prime but still highly skilled.

Little dmall Juan 43 yrs old is an easy fight for Cotto

Cotto needs an easy fight and old little Juan Marquez is a perfect easy fight for Cotto. Juan is small and old and hasn't fought in years so look for a Cotto win and an easy Cotto win. Juan is not in Cotto's class and Freddy knows this.

it's not practical to ask two hall of famers and ppv fighters to take a gigantic paycut. it will not happen. HBO can't pay much more than 3 million for a championship boxing event. these two are going to take 1.5 million each for their last fight? no way! cotto made a 15 million guarantee according to dan rafael to fight canelo. canelo made 5, but got a huge chunk of the mexican TV money.

if they're going to be on regular HBO or showtime it's going to be against a no hoper. networks and promotors understand that these two command enough money and draw enough to mandate that they must be on PPV.
Well, promoters will demand this to be on PPV, and it will probably do the same numbers as Cotto vs. Martinez, or worse. That's their call. But don't be surprised when it doesn't draw more than Cotto vs. Martinez or Bradley vs. Marquez.

If they put on a complete card, maybe, just Cotto vs. Marquez, I can't do it. Cotto vs. Brook, I'd pay for that, Marquez vs. Pacquiao, I'd pay for that. I just don't see 1) Cotto coming back to 147, and 2) Marquez being competitive @ 150.
