they're not going to take a massive paycut in the last fight of their careers, especially agaisnt such a heavy drawing opponent. HBO and showtime have a finite budget for their boxing programming for the year, and they won't spend the entire thing on one fight. these two will be on PPV, or they won't fight!
You don't see the connection? Cotto fighting a 42-yr old former champion coming off knee problems, plus he hasn't fought since ****ing Forever 32nd! And another thing, what is Marquez's record vs. Welterweights? I do agree though, that if the undercard was hot, like Verdejo fighting for a title, then I would pay $60!

i wouldn't choose to pay for these two on PPV if it was up to me, but ayou're not addressing the fact that these two HAVE to be on ppv to make the fight.

it's not practical to ask two hall of famers and ppv fighters to take a gigantic paycut. it will not happen. HBO can't pay much more than 3 million for a championship boxing event. these two are going to take 1.5 million each for their last fight? no way! cotto made a 15 million guarantee according to dan rafael to fight canelo. canelo made 5, but got a huge chunk of the mexican TV money.

if they're going to be on regular HBO or showtime it's going to be against a no hoper. networks and promotors understand that these two command enough money and draw enough to mandate that they must be on PPV.

I've always wanted to see this fight, if Cotto could still make '47 that is but sadly Cotto's body has matured into very solid 154 and he is much too big.

Unless they are going to let Marquez juice up to 154 pounds...this fight makes no sense and Cotto doesn't need to drain himself at this point in his career...

Stop it Freddy! Marquez is barely a WW while Cotto is a full fledged 154lber.

None of these fights are PPV worthy though...but boxing like UFC puts out about a PPV per month whether there should be one or not..

The only PPV-worthy fights I see are:

                  1. Triple G v. Canelo

                  2. Triple G v. Canelo

                  3. Triple G v. Canelo

Ward v. Kovalev is borderline... and Ward could become a PPV star if he actually started showing that he's the pound for pound best...

There are really no PPV fights that are worthy...just names fighting names in pointless fights at points of their career where these fights are meaningless...if a fighter isn't in his prime he shouldn't be on PPV...both fighters should be in prime to merit a PPV fight... Cotto v. Marquez = only a PPV fight if it's at WW for a title... Cotto is clearly not a Welterweight anymore...

Interesting comments. This fight doesn't make sense for a "boxing" fan but will draw big numbers and is probably the biggest fight Marquez can get without going after Manny, which he clearly doesn't want. Both these guys are looking to cash out so in that way I wouldn't be surprised to see this happen at 147.
