Looks like a significant amount of votes went calzaghes way
Andre ward vs joe Calzaghe

joe calzaghe didn't revolve around gross rough housing "tactics" like constant headbutting and holding. all joe needed was his fists, he had very underrated boxing skill, but unfortunately the lack of power is all they remember him for. he beats ward easily.Comment

Joe boxes his ears off. One of the most underappreciated fighters of that era, JC. He took on Eubank when Jones and Hoppy wanted none of it.
There's a school of thought that says RJJ would have beaten JC had they fought sooner, but I am not so sure - it wasn't even close, so the gulf between the two would take a whole lot of reversing, and that's even IF RJJ could do it.
I've said it before: If JC was Bronx born Italian American, he would have gotten infinitely more respect for his career. A great, unbeaten boxer who fought many many great fighters. Too bad he was avoided for so long.
As an aside, I like Ward, amazing skills, especially defensively, but he has done himself no favours the last few years. I think the antidote to his skillset is a big ****er, (especially as there are a few questions about his chin) and there are a few of them at 175. Stevenson, Beterbiev and of course Kovalev. If he runs that gauntlet and comes through with his 0 intact he gets immense respect. I can't see him taking the challenge based on his attitude the last few years, and if he does take the challenge my money is on any of those three as good 'value' against the odds.Comment

You got Ward having a better chin than JC? Not a chance. Flash knockdowns against B'Hop and RJJ aside, where is the evidence for this? Ward got rocked by Paul Smith. JC could take a good punch, and Ward is going to get found out this year, IF he fights.Comment

To be fair though, you don't know what you're talking about.Calzaghe beat a slow Hopkins and faded Jones Jr... Come on, his two biggest accomplishments are beating much slower/older fighters. Calazghe's career was built off almost 98% under dogs with no real chance. Unlike Calazghe, Ward was tested early but allowed his contractual issues destroy his prime. Other fighters have gone through this and either thrived or went under. Ward has yet to show for individuals to think he will go under but he must push for greatness!! Ali lost most of him prime much like Ward, most fans believed he was done and yet he went on to have a historic career.Comment

Correct. Premature P4P talk went to Ward's head, and he simply halted his career thinking job done. This lad has a very long way to go to deserve to lace Joe's gloves.
Talking of laces, what happened to that amazing fighter brought over to destroy JC, Jeff Lacey? Beat everybody on the other side of the Atlantic but got dismantled by Calzaghe, absolutely thrashed him.
Ward's head would be spinning, no chance.Comment
