And calzaghe beat hopkins 114-113. Joe snuck out of there with a win. He didn't look like a great fighter that night. If that's driving hopkins crazy, what do you call what kovalev did to him?
    Kovolev dominated hopkins..

I don't remember calzaghe ever rolling on the floor looking for a DQ or way out, that was hopkins..

Simply put... styles make fights, and calzaghe's style and work rate will give him the edge on ward.. Whats happens when ward can't clinch and headbutt? He will be in an awkward spot and end up losing 115-113 to calzaghe..

it is not fair to say that ward fights every fight this way. he's also a terrific boxer on the outside. to answer the question, he'd try and box. if that doesn't work, he loses, because he's not a puncher. then he'd be in a pinch, and basically have no hope.

what would calzaghe do if ward started beat him to the punch on the outside? it's definitely possible. he's a more accurate puncher, a lot more technical, and might have better timing in spite of giving up some raw handspeed.

at least you understand what styles and attributes are, and how they mesh. most of these guys clearly choose based on who they like. the virtually all of the others vote based on gut feelings. going with your gut and considering styles are not the same.

a few of us are able to think about the styles, physical attributes, and how they'd mesh to produce a fight. you're one of them. this fight is going to the cards. neither can punch hard, and both have great chins. calzaghe should be slightly favored because he throws more, and the styles probably lend themselves to both guys having to scratch and peck for points.

I think Calzaghe is a very bad stylistic match-up for Ward. But when you think - who would be a bad stylistic match-up for Calzaghe - Ward is not the one who comes to mind. This should be someone close in style to Kovalev - disciplined, but also packing some dynamite.
Funny, but Ward's style is the most effective against Kovalev ))

Tough fight for both but I can't see this being lopsided for either man it would be a close fight like the Hopkins Calzaghe fight

i'm not sure who you are, if you're trying to be an ass etc. maybe i'm just being defensive because i'm a jaded bscener

i'll answer your question by first being a semi-jackass myself, and saying you can refer to other posts in the thread for my feelings on that. then i'll go into some more detail as if you're not just giving me a hard timf ro having andre ward in my avatar

ward's got an opportunity to fight two ways. maybe he wins the boxing. if he can get inside and rough calzaghe up he wins.

calzaghe's style lends itself to winnin the boxing match. that's an opinion, obviously. i think he throws too many punches. maybe ward can pull a hopkins and make joe throw less, but if he doesn't i think he loses the rounds if they box.

i can see joe outworking ward if they box. ward's certainly not boxing joe's doors off. i think ward's trump card is that he can go all the way inside and be effective. if he ward does that he wins. if they box, i think joe gets the decision on activity.

Joe. Faster, just as skilled and doesn't let anyone punk him. Dude was a tough mother when he wanted to be. Ward would try his bs and Joe would just give it right back.
