Again he wasn't getting Cotto no matter what the WBC would have mandated he wouldn't have gotten Cotto. It took Canelo damn near 2 years to get Cotto and Nelo is a much bigger name than GGG. Ggg knew his only chance to get Cotto was to play ball and remain the mandatory. Had he declined the step aside, all Cotto would have done was drop the belt.

Same thing is happening with Canelo here. After the weak PPV's by GGG in against Lemieux, Oscar who was already hesitant to make a Canelo vs GGG fight probably told GGGs team they can either take a tune up or go F themselves.
That's your opinion and you have nothing to back it up. The facts are:

He was supposed to fight Cotto in June he took money not to fight him.

He was supposed to fight Cotto after June and he took the money not to fight him

He was supposed to fight Canelo after he beat Cotto but he's about to take the money not to fight him.

Let's try to stick to the facts.

Oscar has said on multiple occasions he didn't want GGG next.
He said he wanted to marinate the fight.

And we all know Cotto fights when he wants to and no one forces him into anything he doesn't want to. Again had GGG done what you said and declined the step aside money all Canelo or Cotto would have done is dropped the belt. Doesn't take an expert to realize that. All you have to do is watch boxing for longer than the few months you apparently have been watching to figure it out.

Take the step aside money and still have that mandatory afterwards. Or he can be an idiot, refuse free step aside money, guarantee the others to drop the belt, lose out on big step aside money and your mandatory position.
This shouldn't be a hard concept for GGG haters to understand.

lol at this ******... Let's see, take $0 and not get the Cotto fight or take $800,000 to not get the Cotto fight.

life must be a complete struggle being so dumb.

So... um. Why are these guys offering GGG money not to fight them? You think maybe K2 went into the Cotto and Canelo negotiations looking for them step-aside $s?

                It's a hypothesis I suppose.

This. The Cotto fight was just free money for GGG. I think nearly everyone would agree Cotto had no to little intention of fighting GGG if he would have beaten Canelo or even before if GGG had turned down the step aside money.

And why would he? He was going to make massive bank to fight Canelo, with or without a title, & probably some low % of that vs GGG. There was no decision to make for Cotto unless Cotto is ******ed. Cotto don't get paid a $1 for everyone who says how brave he is or lose a $1 for everyone who uses his name & duck in the same sentence.

Anyway it ultimately made sense for both sides. Cotto was able to make millions vs Canelo & GGG made nearly a million for doing nothing. I don't think either guy can complain much there tbqh.
