Hopkins won and defended the lineal title. There is NO flaw in that...

Was Murray or Geale as high as 2 when he beat them

Qullin was 2 and that's pretty high
Murray and Geale may have been top 5 but definitely not top 2. I don't think anyone can make a coherent argument for Lemieux being higher than #5 @ 160...

No argument there. Hopkins most certainly spent many years as the true #1 160lb'er in the world - while the lineal title was vacant - and that in itself is an accomplishment. Hopkins' resume @ 160 is quite impressive and Bumlovkin will never come close to matching it, IMO...

after he beat Holmes and Trinidad he was the one true champion....he defended 6 times.....vs ODLH, Joppy, Robert Allen, Carl Daniels, Morrade Hakkar and Howard Eastman

Everything else was just defenses of the IBF trinket....their were too many belts and titleholders floating around from 1995-2001 just to say Hopkins was the champion......he proved it in the ring in 2001

those are the facts and arguing who is the best is just opinion...I like both fighters
Unless the champion refuses to get in the ring with his top contender.

B-Hop wasn't the real champ until he beat Tito.

Golovkin still hasn't become the lineal champ.

                  It's not controversial.

their is no best until they fight each other......the champion is Canelo and the top contenders are GGG, Jacobs and Lee/Saunders winner.(contenders with trinkets, GGG as well)

that's the problem with newbie as boxing fans....they dont want the fighters to earn anything, just have it given to them

nothing is given in boxing, you have to earn it.....He isn't the best middleweight until he fights the best middleweights and he hasnt
Don't be ****** man. The champion is not Canelo. Canelo beat a Junior MW that had beat a pseudo retired one legged Martinez for the lineal championship.

How in the world can you say that it means that he's the 160 champion? Golovkin is. Your ****ing ***** champion is asking for a CW to fight GGG, COME ****ING ON.

Hagler and Monzon were the lineal champions and undisputed their reigns and Hagler had 12 defenses and Monzon had 14....their were alphabet titles back then too and people act like their wasn't

Monzon beat hall of famer Nino Benvenuti who was lineal/wbc and wba title in 1970...IN THE RING....was stripped of the wbc in '74 and won it back by beating title holder Valdez and ended his career with a rematch.....he had 14 total defenses

Hagler beat Allan Minter for the linea/ Ring/ wbc and WBA titles...IN THE RING....won the vacant ibf in 83 and lost the lineal title to Leonard after 12 defenses

I hate when people make up records to try and pump up a fighters resume.....Just like Hopkins, he has 20 IBF defenses at 160 but only 6 lineal/undisputed title defenses, therefore he holds no record....ITS A DISSERVICE TO THESE TWO ALL TIME GREATS TO MAKE FAKE RECORDS OF HOPKINS AND GGG
While I certainly agree that the defenses is an absolute joke, I will disagree on him earning his status in the ring. He won the IBF title in the ring and even if he had still been regular champ, that fight would of made him Super champion. Basicly you have to cling to being butthurt that he was elevated from interim to regular champion to say he has'nt earned his spot. The guy has rampaged through the division and destroyed anyone willing to step in the ring with him. He can't control sanctioning bodies and he can't make guys fight him. Clinging to the whole he has'nt earned it routine just sounds petty and pathetic at this point. Before he beat Lemieux the argument carried some weight. Now, not so much.
