But GGG is a bum who fights other bums. How would fighting a drained bum at 154 be anything worth bragging about?

****** thread, Mayweather hardly gets any credit when he dismantled great fighters in the past.

If GGG was a natural welterweight he would be another boogeyman that folks will hype up about and then when Floyd outboxes him they'll say he was too green, flat footed, slow, and a bum.

Whether if Floyd was a natural middleweight or GGG a natural welter i think Floyd beats him by UD in both scenarios.

In this case it would be a very very boring fight where Floyd would potshot and shift, side step, dance away, and leap from incoming shots. Floyd wouldn't stay still for a round and hes proven to be very durable and has a iron chin. I think Golovkin may get a KD but it'll still be Floyd's fight to lose.

He wins and he still won't get credit cause like i said folks will always downplay Mayweather. He's just on another level than other fighter's.

So was Corrales' but you're touting that as a great win for Floyd. This would obviously be a better win

Its funny Floyd fans making excuses as to why fighting GGG would be pointless? The audacity is astounding, literally astonishing!
Theyve tried convincing themselves that saying GGG fighting bums is some kind of valid excuse even though they aren't bums? There is nobody on Floyd resume GGG wouldn't dismantle in 5 rounds so Floyd's resume is full of fighters even worse than bums evidently
They've tried convincing themselves that historically having titles in 6divisions is pointless! So if the 168 champ has a resume of bums, it wouldn't be worth Floyds time to win a title in a 7th divison? The arrogance knows no boundaries.

Floyd has never beat a middleweight and GGG beats middleweights for fun. Only people who dont think Floyd will gain much are people who dont want Floyd to be great.

But what happens 5 years from now, is a discussion between me and a new boxing fan like this:

PBP: "Floyd is a top 5 ATG, he moved up to MW and beat Gennady Golovkin"

              Spoon2020: ***boxrecs Gennady Golovkin**

Spoon2020: "hahahahahahahahahaha... Gennady Golovkin??? Who did he beat??? His best win was Daniel Geale who got blasted by Miguel Cotto and Darren Barker. Hahahahahahahahahaha"

That's what it will look like 5 years from now.

hahaha one of the atg post here......lol

The history books would say no. People would make a big deal of it now, but it is doubtful that GGG will make it to the Hall of Fame. He'd become a middleweight that was not that good. His wins over Canelo, Pacquiao, Mosley, De La Hoya, Castillo, Cotto, and Corrales would stand out more.

Golovkin will be 34 in a few weeks time. Where do you think he'd go after a Mayweather loss?

Not at all. Time and his legacy of his skills are currently in his final test. He is 39 now? How many greats kept on before 45?

People don't realize the best of the best can still bloom in the next 5 years with Floyd having any pick. If Thurman dominates for the next 3 years as the undisputed 147 or someone else at 154 or 160... If he comes back at an older age and impresses the world the way he did against Marquez then a GGG bout now is not worth it.

The fact that he has been doing it for 19 years he gets a pass to at least relax and have the opportunity to enjoy true time off or "retirement." He has been traveling the world and enjoying the good life.

Due to GGG's resume, when you start analyzing the hypothetical win, you start asking "Well...why is this win good again?" You start looking at GGG's resume for good names, and you'll have to really reach and start naming guys who 20 years from now will not be remembered. Geale, Lemiuex, Rubio, Stevens, Macklin, and so on...none of these guys are world beaters. So Floyd just hypothetically beat a dangerous guy who never showed his level of danger vs any elite fighter. That's how I see it.

Why is Pacquiao his best win? Well Pacquiao was a dangerous guy who showed his speed and power through 8 weight classes and took risks and was outweighed in most fights, won a bunch of awards like FOTD, titles in 8 weight classes, beat a bunch of top 10 P4P fighters in higher weight classes. And so on...yeah GGG doesn't even come close to Pacquiao. So Pacquiao would remain Floyd's best win. GGG comes nowhere in the top 5 for sure. De La Hoya, Cotto, Castillo, Corrales, Hatton, Canelo, Mosley all more accomplished fighters at the top level.
An excellent post top to bottom. But I still think it would be a big win, given Floyd's age and shape by the time fight takes place.
