Al Haymon and The Porters

Shawn Porter is simply a super-talented young fighter, who just so happens to not be in position to call his shot.

Amir Khan has his UK following, Danny "Swift" Garcia is continuing to build on his profile as possibly being a crossover star, Keith Thurman is also building his own profile (added caveat of both fighters still being undefeated champs), Maidana cashed out on two Floyd fights (desire to fight on is unlikely there), Guerrero cashed in on one Floyd fight (still has some desire to fight, but can now choose to take fights that interest him), and Erroll Spence Jr and Sammy Vaquez Jr are both young prospects, just setting their foundations.

You add that Shawn Porter is now in a position where, rightfully so, he expects to be compensated a certain way and he's basically got to play the waiting game now. Tough dice, but it is what it is.

If Shawn Porter had defeated Kell Brook in his IBF title defense, after getting he way past Devon Alexander and mauling Paulie Malignaggi, the 147 division would be his to pick through (he wouldn't have the crossover ceiling of Danny Garcia, but he would've been the longest reigning 147 champion, undefeated, and the only other rightful 147 champ at the time of Floyd's retirement).

Without that IBF title and having been defeated already, the risk/reward calculus doesn't make sense for the fighters that he's seeking to fight.

Thurman-Porter is the next logical fight to make, if everyone is being honest about it; Porter and his camp simply need to understand that that fight gets put on the docket when Keith Thurman wants the fight on the docket, not when the Porters want it, regardless of how much the press.

Come January 2016, Danny Garcia fights in Los Angeles, Deontay Wilder fights in New York, Jean Pascal fights Kovalev in Montreal, and Kell Brook is likely to travel over for a fight too.

Come February, the calendar opens up again, with the likely first primetime NBC date set aside for the Thurman fight.

Well Porter is part of the stable to so if he takes everyone's 0 than he's gonna be Uncle Al's guy.

He doesn't have what it takes, personality wise, to be Al's guy. He cannot sustain as the face of PBC. Regardless if he beats everyone. Him taking everyone's O would be bad business for Al.

Haymon has the EXACT SAME fiduciary duty as a "manager" to Porter that he does to Broner.

That doesn't matter, an owner has the same fiduciary to his QBs but he protects, pays and flashes around his starter. Why? Chance of winning, winning brings in fans, fans bring in $$, etc, etc.

and that has always been one of my biggest criticisms of Haymons operation. A "manager" has a fiduciary duty to represent the best interests of the fighter, and that is impossible to do when that same "manager" also represents the opponent, because everything negotiated for fighter A comes at the expense of fighter B. Their interests oppose each other.

A perfect example was the Floyd-Maidana glove issue. Anyone who thinks Maidanas interests got represented by his "manager" are out of their minds.

I disagree. They got a Danny & Angel Garcia vibe going on. They talk to f#cking much. Kenny Porter seems to have less of a filter than he should have for a older cat (although granted not on a Angel or Ruben Guerrero or Floyd Sr level). I think if Porter ran thru Thurman, Spence, maybe Vazquez, Khan, Garcia or some combo of those guys he's gonna be a popular guy. Winning makes you popular. Plus he comes to fight. Whats not to like?

The reality with PBC is a ****LOAD of Haymon fighters have already been beaten, but they are mostly his younger up & coming guys (gotta be close to a dozen Haymon signed fighters have lost their 0 & often to another guy with an 0). I think Haymon is far less into who wins then you think. The cream rises to the top eventually regardless of you trying to keep it down. Haymon seems wise enough to know that. Also Broner can have 7 losses & he's still gonna be more popular than most undefeated guys. Some guys just got that thing that people wanna see.

Everyone in some fashion, protects their assets. Bronner, was one of Haymons most valuable and most popular assets. Doesn't matter how good they are/aren't, if it brings in the dough, you protect it, and try to build off it.

Shawn Porter, although a talented boxer, is not one of Haymons valuable assets from a marketing/money making stand point. Ironically though, he's probably one of Haymons overall best boxers and can spoil Haynons plans if he's not careful. Porter has the talent to expose Haynons stable.

How is Shawn Porter not marketable? Clean living kid, healthy family relationship, personable, good TV presence, etc; if Haymon was looking to pitch a list of fighters to Coca Cola, Shawn Porter would easily be on that list (Garcia, Thurman, Wilder, Figueroa Jr and others would also be on that list).

Porter's current issue is that he took an L against Kell Brook, soundly defeated in his title defense in primetime on Showtime.

Rather than now being "aging veteran ready to be picked off by a rising fighter", Porter ended up "good and dangerous young fighter, knocked off by a better young fighter". The risk/reward calculus changed for everyone.

Adrien Broner, after getting the **** beat out of him by Marcos Maidana and having three ho-hum fights, needed to fight, and beat, a guy like Shawn Porter if he was to get his heat back.

The next guy who is in a similar spot is Keith Thurman; young, undefeated champion, exciting fighter, but having spent the last two years as a secondary champion. Once formally elevated to full champion, Thurman needs to knock off a solid guy, to establish his claim as full champion. Enter Shawn Porter.

I've got nothing to apologize for, and I stand by every word that I wrote in that thread.

Not my problem that "One Punch Productions" is so inept an idea that you support promoters putting on TV broadcasts, expecting not to actually make any money off of the actual broadcast.
