Yep. It's super difficult for haters to realize, GGG just wants to own the MW division. Then maybe he'll move up, but not until achieving his goal.

It's the same goal he's always had, and he will achieve it. Even fighters who hold the MW title will drop the belt any way they can to avoid facing him in the ring.

I will look down on boxers who do this only if they proudly claim to have been a champion from the very sanctioning body. Unless the move up or down in weight or retire.

But I guess at a certain point, the belts don't matter once the Media Hypes boxers up to a level beyond a belt or title.

Even if Golovkin unifies all of the titles, he still won't be THE middleweight champion. Cotto is still THE lineal middleweight champion. Hence, that theory isn't accurate. The best in the middleweight division until he either leaves the division, loses, or retires is Miguel Cotto.

Its obviously a money thing & the $800k deal was a free money situation for a fight K2 knew wasn't likely to happen then or merely had hoped it would happen in the future. It was a smart move, although in hindsight if they never got or won't be getting the $800k it didn't work out so well, but again thats hindsight.

There are different risks & rewards with all that **** doe so some things make more since than others & certain things make more or less sense as we move ahead & can make decisions on knowing more infomation. Thats the reality everyone knows including Gennedy "Getting Gazillions" Golovkin.

I'm under the impression that a unification title match for the WBC would have paid him more than $800,000. It also would have kept up the story that he only wants to unify the division. I guess it's only alright for GGG to choose money over legacy? I've certainly seen virtually every other fighter trashed for making such decisions.

In what was a bit of stunning news, it was announced by the World Boxing Council that they were 'derecognizing' Miguel Cotto as their middleweight champion for in essence, not paying their sanctioning fees and what turned out to also be a step-aside fee to Gennady Golovkin.

On Saturday night, Saul "Canelo" Alvarez can still win this title should he defeat Cotto this weekend at the Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas. It was decreed by the WBC that the winner of this bout had to face Golovkin, who by virtue of beating Marco Antonio Rubio last October earned the WBC-interim title and secured the mandatory spot.
