WBC had their answer from Cotto months ago and they tried to squeeze more from Cotto, that's why Suliman has been recently quoted everyday with the same BS about fighting ggg, he was up to something trying to strong arm Cotto via the press and gigis fanboyz. EPIC Failure

GGG can be the champion of paying all the crappy belt wiseguys x4

Now there could be a question as to WHO exactly paid GGG, whether it was Roc Nation on Cottos behalf, or some combo of Roc/Cotto, but thats their problem. According to K2, the money was paid.

People seem to be getting all excited, like "oh boy woo hoo Cotto hosed GGG", like its some personal victory for them. But remember, no step-aside deal would mean no WBC title would be on the line, period. It was a requirement of making the fight in the first place. The fact that Canelo can still win it indicates the step-aside deal was fulfilled.
In the article, based on Cotto's quotes, it sounds like the step aside money hasnt been paid. Could be wrong though

Because he payed what the WBC told him to pay for their sanctioning fee, I guess.

Canelo may not be interested in the MW title, but Oscar is.

Saul still not a real middleweight doe. SMH.

my sources tell me it was paid, but even if we assume it wasnt, the terms had been agreed to, and K2/GGG held up their end of the deal, and K2 will sue Cotto and/or Roc to get their money if they have to.

            Well thats good to know.

If its just a argument over sanctioning fees then that doesnt annoy me so much.

Because GGG is too big of a risk of a KO loss. point blank. Cotto should have dropped the belt because he had no intentions of ever fighting him.
As I said, it's about money at this point. He got the same money to fight Geale that he would of got to fight GGG. I at no point said he's interested in big names. He already has plenty of them on his HOF resume.

Exactly, and it makes perfect sense for Cotto. Either he loses to Canelo, or he wins and gets stripped for not fighting GGG next. Either way he loses the title, so why pay the $300k? The $800k was a different story because that allowed him to have the title and gain leverage over Canelo in the negotiations. Im sure the difference in money split is likely several million dollars, so the $800k was money well spent.

Why is everyone acting as if WBC is trying to rob Cotto? He's literally defaulting on a signed contract.

He MUST have known the amount for Golovkin since he offered it to him.
And 300k is 3% from his official purse (10m cotto, 6.5m canelo, cotto also gets % of PPV proceeds).

There's no new information. He knows he's gonna duck Golovkin so he's vacating the belt to save himself money. Part of the whole 'miguel does what's best for his family' persona. Even if that means breaking contract.

Some ppl here the hate just blinds them!!!

                      Cotto's statement:

Yesterday I talked to [WBC President] Mauricio [Sulaiman]. He had our answer before our camp started [for the Canelo fight]. He waited until the last moment to put pressure on us. We call him yesterday -including the $800,000 dollars we have to pay to Golovkin just to step aside, I had agreed to pay $125,000 more dollars, that was reasonable number for me. He said that was not reasonable for them and he said 'no' and he said 'you are not going to be our champion anymore.'"

Without a doubt there's no agreed step aside $$$ for GGG, less likely a contract. WBC tried to be slick and presure Cotto a week prior to fight night and threw that $800,000 figure...Here he clearly states that the WBC had Cotto's answer BEFORE their camp started ...that's 6-7 weeks ago...meaning that he was willing to pay $125,000 to GGG for stepping aside...WBC new that w/o a belt Canelo wouldn't agreed to some of Cotto's demands and there will be no Cotto/Canelo and their 3% sactioning fee to each fighters...Greed is a beeotch!!! $1.100.000 is just absurd!!!

Oscar is livid cause Cotto had it his way on the negotiating table!!!
