Doesn't mean **** imo, because Cotto doesn't fight at the full 160. Bad enough to say he's top dog when he has the belt, but without it I think that "lineal" junk means nothing. Just my opinion, but then again this sport is utterly moronic in many ways, so who cares.

      yeh ok.

He allowed for Cotto to continue calling himself a champion (which helped Cotto get a great deal). The event still takes place with or without, but Cotto benefited from GGG stepping aside and he should be compensated.

Canelo on record saying he don't care about the belt and wanted to fight him regardless.
Cotto gave pretty clear signs when he said he wasn't a middleweight after the Geale fight when he was asked. Him weighing 153 was also a sign.

It's asking a lot of a guy with a big ego to say he won't fight someone.

That was never how it was going to play out.

WBC gave Cotto an out, and he took it.

Cotto has been fighting the best fighters in the world for 15 years across four divisions, and on Saturday he'll be doing what he's always done - fighting the best.

GGG is a flash in the pan - the 2015 version of Lucas Matthyse. Once GGG steps up to a real caliber of fighter like Cotto, Ward and Canelo - his 15 minutes will be up and you front running fans will cling on to the next power puncher.

No he shouldn't have. He should be paying the WBC money because the belt should be his. The only reason we're in this situation is because the WBC wanted a cut of this megafight.

[QUOTE=el***;16238354]Then why did Cotto have no problem fighting Geale if he is only interested in big names, big PPV's and money?

Because GGG is too big of a risk of a KO loss. point blank. Cotto should have dropped the belt because he had no intentions of ever fighting him.

^^^ You are absolutely right!!! Exact same reasons GGG was willing to fight Froch and Chavez Jr @ 168 but not Ward...too much risk, not enough cash!!! Plain and simple!!!

The WBC wanted sanctioning fees. This is a normal part of boxing. Normally around 3% of the fighters purse or there abouts.

WBC also required Cotto to pay GGG 800,000 so that the mandatory would not be enforced. Cotto agreed to this, and backtracked later. The WBC should have forced the payment ages ago. Before Cotto started negotiating for the Canelo fight (negotiations where Cotto got a great deal, in part because he had the WBC belt).
