      You made a fair point.
Thank you, and i appreciate the point you are trying to make.

i agree that, in the absence of meaningful, and more profitable, fights at 160 for whatever reason, i.e. politics, promotional ties, TV rights, etc., then Golovkin will need to move up.

i also agree that he will definitely garner more respect beating Jack, Degale, Ward, etc., if he was able to. But that would be because he is an average sized 160lb-er going up against bigger fighters.

I was just mentioning that other fighters have stayed at their own natural fighting weights, forced others to come to them, and still attained "greatness". With regards to Hagler and Monzon, as the two 160 examples I mentioned, I appreciate that there was no 168 division then; 160 up to 175 is a big jump!

      Regards.

No, what is hilarious is that you would not call him on that blatant duck.

but primarily because golovkin is a natural 160lb-er, and not a particularly big one at that.

so he can't just be a great 160lb-er? e.g. like Hagler, Monzon, etc.

he has to give height, reach, weight away to be great?
          Nope.

Not with Murray as his best win.

And it's not like he can take time to sign contracts to fight ggg now. He needs to be 100% focused for the opponent in front of him. He wins I believe everything he says. I have NO doubt he'll fight ggg and it's not a matter of if! But when... Cotto probably won't ever fight ggg. And I'm ok with that as well. He's put in his work and paid his dues.
Canelo may have waited in that sense, but Cotto has been blocking GGG access to another MW title and the Lineal, which should truly belong to him.

Politics as such, it's good WBC mandate GGG get the winner. Sure Canelo may "eventually" fight GGG, but siting until he is old because Canelo is young is a ***** move.

Canelo wants a out of prime GGG. If I'm GGG, and Canelo vacates. I don't let him get a chance when in three years he wants to clear up the mess. I'd say Canelo had a shot, he chickened out.

Like so many others, they want credit, the name, but don't want to fight the guy in their prime.

Cotto calls himself 4 division champ, but never fought at 160.

Canelo will call himself a three division champ, including MW, but when GGG is concerned, he'll say I'm not a MW, I had no interest in the belt, I'm not scared.

It's this BS path to greatness that is lame. If Canelo got the 155 CW, and sonehow upset the weight drained GGG, Canelo would damn near have unified the entire MW division at one pound above JR.MW.

I see that as a coward move!

You're getting way ahead of yourself. Let's see how the fight even plays out 1st. If Canelo looks awesome than I'm all for him going straight at GGG. If he struggles with Cotto than he needs to take a fight or two. Frankly I think his trainer is tapped out and isn't going to help anymore and training out of his garage is ALWAYS a recipe for disaster. They need to stay in the gyms with the hungry cubs trying to get what they have.

Haha, yes, I agree - IF Murray was to remain thought of as his "best win".

However, Hagler probably not have been considered so marvellous if William Lee had been his best win as a champion . . .

My main point was that Golovkin might not necessarily need to move up to attain "greatness" but that would very much depend on who he was able to fight at 160. However, given the available opposition, The Big Dunn's points about moving up are valid.

If he looks bad against Cotto, he probably should vacate and give up on beating GGG anytime while GGG is his prime.

Sadly for Canelo, that's entails become a modern version of Rid**** Bowe. Except with a giant PPV fan base.
