Toney also lost to worse fighters than Sergey Kovalev.

He got punched while Carpello stepped on his foot. He obviously was not hurt at all.

Now I'm not saying Kovalev would have beaten Toney but using that "knock down" as an argument is pretty fucking ******.

Toney eats Kovalev alive. Does Kovalev land a decent shot on a 175 lbs Toney, who had an excellent defense, chin and more than enough power to hurt Sergey. Kovalev would likley press the action and end up hitting thin air and shoulders most of the night whilst eating crisp and hard punches all night. Clear win for Toney!

Toney. People seem to forget Toney is a 1st ballot HOFer.

Toney was not nearly so hard to hit as you're thinking he was. Not even close, and especially not at 175. If he couldn't clearly beat Montell Griffin in 2 tries, then Kovalev could sure as **** beat him.

                Kovalev by wide decision.

James Toney couldn't even beat Drake Thadzi at LHW much less Serghey Kovalev.

Kovalev wouldn't miss the jab, its there all night to the head and stomach.

He'd find him with most his punches.

Fair points but those happened at different weights. 95 toney only lost to Montell in highly questionable MD his 1st time at LHW then beat a string of middle level LHW's before losing to Montell by UD in late 96.

As big of a Toney fan as I am, Kovalev is all wrong for him. He could always catch Kovalev like he did Nunn, but outside of that he gets boxed to death.
