Same reason why Miguel Cotto was able to have Alvarez by the balls in the negotiations for their fight; everyone knew that Golden Boy put their entire future on Canelo stepping in with one of the sport's other stars and launching himself, so Team Cotto made sure that they made them pay the full markup for the opportunity.
If Canelo had kept the thirst down, instead standing on his own laurels (massive star in Mexico, undergirding star for the bulk of Mayweather's recent PPVs, drawing a massive crowd/sizable TV rating when he stepped out on his own show, dual titlist at 154, etc), the catchweight wouldn't have even gotten into the negotiations.

Why 5 boxers? What are you ? Some soap box judge and jury? Lemieux - champion - Geale ex champion - Murray cheated out of being champion - ALL OF THEM TKO'D
just give it over - other ardent Ward fans on here have already stated that they know Brand is a crap opponent - why are you trying to sing a different tune?

Beyond that, the lil G defense force has been adamantly trying to sell Golovkins bum fights as actual meaningful showdowns, for more than the past year now.
The fight is likely to be sold as "see Andre Ward back in the ring", in a co-feature to a hotly anticipated fight.

Boxing fans like you are so basic. By the end of 2016, Ward will have 5 victories greater than Golovkin's best win. But you'll still come on here pouting about Ward.
Sit your ass down fanboy.

I'll go ahead and tell you this right now: Cotto vs Canelo isn't going to be Hagler Hearns either. Save you some mental anguish lol

Funny how when Ward does something, we need to relax, but if GGG went on a 2 year layoff after Lemieux, fought Paul Smith as a comeback fight, then fought 2 more bum tuneups, he'd be the laughing stock of boxing.
Ambition is healthy; every young fighter worth anything has ambitions of moving up 2-3 weight classes and competing one day. When that opportunity comes though, and you turn *****, the public will roast you for your cowardice.
David Lemieaux is a bum fighter who's looked ordinary or like **** whenever he's stepped beyond that C-level of fighters; Paul Smith would walk into a fight with Golovkin, even after the Andre Ward performance, as the most accomplished fighter Golovkin has ever stepped into the ring with as a professional.
it's not even close.

I know about $60 adverts dimwit - but why are you even mentioning them? - in your own warped mind it makes sense to crap on about them - just carry on - why not clutter up these boards even more with your self righteous verbage?
better still, convince the other Ward fans on here that Brand is some great foe for Ward.

We're talking about the same dude that has been trying to get Calzaghe out of retirement for a fight. No matter which way you wanna try to spin it, your boy is just as opportunistic as the GGG or the next fighter.
He moved up to 168 and proceeded to clean out the division. Won the Super 6 by defeating Kessler, Abraham, and Froch along the way. Knocked out the lineal LHW champ at the 168 lb. limit after the tournament as well. In his stay at 168, he won the WBA, WBC, RING, TBRB, and Lineal championships.
He then sat on the shelf for almost two years due to promotional issues. Came back as a LHW. His first two fights ended up being tune-ups (Smith, Brand), but he has signed a contract to fight Kovalev by the end of next year. So in 2016, Ward's top 5 scalps will be Kessler, Abraham, Froch, Dawson, and Kovalev. He will have added the WBA, IBF, and WBO titles at LHW to his trophy case that already includes his SMW conquests.
Yet you still denigrate this man? While propping up a coward that is begging for fights against retired WWs and blown-up JMWs? You are a sad man with very little cognitive ability. I am dumber for having engaged in this tit-for-tat with you. Goodbye.
