not to mention they begged for a fight with mayweather for his 154 pound strap after signing to fight chavez for title and begging froch to fight which would also been for the title at 168. i dont get why ggg fans dont call team ggg out on their bull**** but let me guess that was somehow different because uhhhhhhhhhhhh

Cotto should have dropped the belt.
Catchweights should be abolished, they are completely unnecessary.
Sanchez is right, if you can't handle the heat, get out of the kitchen.

I dont really understand your position actually.....
The purpose of a catchweight is to enable a fight between two guys who normally would not meet because of weight disparity.
Cotto weighs 153, he is OBVIOUSLY a JMW who is punching above his weight.
If you accept cw's.... EVER.... then you will have to accept that one.
Cotto should dare to be great, but if you accept any kind of weight-leveler within boxing other than the standard divisions, then it will apply to Cotto/Golovkin.
Catchweights are accepted today, and Cotto weighs 153.
Team Golovkin have also used weight manipulation, and unfortunately for them Cotto is the A-side this time..... also, Cotto has been fcuked over by catchweight's himself.....
..... but my real issue is that Team Golovkin have recently stated that Gennady can make 154, and a fight like that is exactly what they need considering their PPV aspirations.
And it was GGG himself who said he can make 154, not Sanchez or Loeffler.
IF Team Golovkin stick to their guns and refuse a catchweight knowing that the winner will be stripped, and that fight falls through as a result..... it will be added to the growing list of fights that Golovkin could have had, but didn't.
That list is growing.
And the guys on that list are much better than the guys on GGG's resume.
Know what I mean ?
There seems to be no reason why a cw request should kill that fight.

I agree with Abel Sanchez. The weight limit is 160 in the middleweight division then that should be the limit, not a ridiculous catch weight. The governing bodies keep allowing this bending of rules and they helped create this mess.

this fight 5 times in a row at 155 and fight a guy who won the title at 159 lbs at 153 lbs **** is depressing
History has already provided the blueprint.
In the example you provided above....
IF catchweights were abolished, and a smaller fighter went up and fought "for the title but it would be a one off, make history sorta deal then they'd move back down"..... I would see that as going up to cherry-pick a guy you thought you could beat based on style, and vacating and moving back down immediately would confirm that you are a paper champ.
There may be an exception, but just my opinion.
Nobody would have called Cotto a real champ if he had vacated after the Martinez fight, everyone would have said that Cotto fought an injured Martinez..... and if Martinez had not been injured I'm not sure if Cotto would have beaten him.
I think catchweights should be completely abolished, they are unnecessary.

Golovkin can have all the belts and a formidable opponent, still won't ever be a ppv draw. He needs Cotto or Canelo!! They better realize that!! Make the weight that's being asked and if you win, you will become the star you want to be.

I actually believe that would happen.
I don't think Golovkin would get a 2nd chance.
