Thats what I dont get..... ?

GGG used to fight in the 154-168 division.....

    Until Ward made a comeback.....

Then GGG decided to fight in the 154-164 division.....

But then Ward said he will consider a catchweight.....

So GGG decided to fight in the 154-160 division.....

But then the Cotto/Canelo winner said..... " ok " .....

Now GGG fights in the " 159-161 unless-they-pose-a-threat " division.....

Why can't Golovkin just cut the bullshht and fight the winner ?

He wasn't scared of lil feather-fisted Floyd.

It was Golovkin himself who said he can make 154, not Sanchez or Loeffler.

IF Team Golovkin stick to their guns and refuse a catchweight knowing that the winner will be stripped, and that fight falls through as a result..... it will be added to the growing list of fights that Golovkin could have had, but didn't.

      That list is growing.

And the guys on that list are much better than the guys on GGG's resume.

There seems to be no reason why a cw request should kill that fight.

You can say that Canelo (or Cotto) is "the A side" all you want, but whoever wins their matchup is going to look like a wussy for vacating the belt. Especially Canelo. And it will be part of their legacy.

Personally I don't think Canelo is all that good. Cotto is damn good, but he's taken some serious beatings. He's a bit small for MW.

Did anybody watch Canelo doing nothing against Floyd? Seriously. Of course he doesn't want to fight GGG.

Cotto really is legit too small for GGG. Fair enough.

But when Canelo asks for 155 and then vacates the MW belt to avoid Golovkin, the world will know why.

I'm sure this has been said. For the title fight, there shouldn't be a catchweight, regardless of who it is. If Canelo wants to come in at 155 and GGG comes in at 159.5, that should be okay since both are within the middleweight limit. Catchweights should only be for mega fights between two people in two different weight classes. If you are fighting in the same weight class, there should be no catch weight, especially for a title fight. And I'm surprised by Canelo because fight night, he usually weighs a couple more pounds more than GGG. But with all of that said, GGG had his first PPV with a buyrate ranging from around 100,000 to 150,000. If he concedes to Cotto and Canelo's weight demands, he'll have another PPV that'll triple the buy rate of his first one, and if he wins, then he's a star. He needs to do this in order for the public to call Canelo and Cotto out. They both have a lot of pride and don't want their fans and even other past and current boxers to call them out. Also, if Canelo beats Cotto, they already talking about fighting GGG in a couple years. GGG is already 33 and we don't know how long he can be dominant. Ginger has all the time in the world because he's very young and he's already a star, with a couple of stars promoting him.

History has already provided the blueprint.

In the example you provided above....

IF catchweights were abolished, and a smaller fighter went up and fought "for the title but it would be a one off, make history sorta deal then they'd move back down"..... I would see that as going up to cherry-pick a guy you thought you could beat based on style, and vacating and moving back down immediately would confirm that you are a paper champ.

There may be an exception, but just my opinion.

Nobody would have called Cotto a real champ if he had vacated after the Martinez fight, everyone would have said that Cotto fought an injured Martinez..... and if Martinez had not been injured I'm not sure if Cotto would have beaten him.

I think catchweights should be completely abolished, they are unnecessary.

It depends. In some instances you could go for the low hanging fruit, but there are also instances where the fighter does not want to put himself through the grinder for lesser opponents.

If Ward decided he wanted to continue fighting at 168lb, but moved up in weight to fight Kovalev, I wouldn't call that a cherrypick.

                    WTF ?

Nobody at 154, 160 Lasts Twelve With Golovkin.....

Abel Sanchez, trainer for IBF/IBO/WBA middleweight champion Gennady “GGG” Golovkin (34-0, 31 KOs), was not surprised with his boxer's one-sided domination of former IBF middleweight champion David Lemieux (34-3, 31KOs) on Saturday night at New York's Madison Square Garden. Golovkin controlled the fight from the first round, with a sharp, hard jab. That jab kept Lemieux from doing much of anything. Golovkin used that punch as a tool to set up his power shots and finally got the TKO win in the eight round.

                    Is that kid crippled ?
