You're making a bad assumption. You think that because GGG's PPV under performed against the promoters expectations it means he's not A side to Ward.

Make no mistake - Ward is still a far less popular fighter and is currently cherry picking garbage opponents for his fights.

Golovkin will be back on PPV within the next year, even if it's not against Cotto/Canelo.

They won't put him back on ppv if it's not against canelo/cotto winner or ward, GGG is exciting I like watching his fights but other then them 3 no one else warrants a ppv fight lee has to get past Saunders in December if he lose and winner of cinnamon/cotton got in different direction his next fight choices are heiland as mando to WBC belt he would be elevated to full champ to and Johnson with ibf belt his team did a disservice to him with the A side talk and cw demand to only guy everyone picks for him to be a underdog against from 154-168

sorry it was a ppv flop, 1 of 6 ppvs to do less than 200k, those werent considered successful so neither should this.

Just not a fight that should have been on PPV in the first place. Im glad it did low numbers, hopefully this will stop them from doing more PPVs. If that means 1 less GGG fight a year, so be it, its not like we're going to lose out on much.

150k PPV, plus Canadian PPV, plus European and Asian viewers, and a sold out MSG is not bad at all.

Remember, K2 didn't make this PPV because they thought it was going to do big numbers. They did it because that was the only way to generate enough revenue to pay Lemieux what he was asking for fighting Golovkin when he didn't need to do it.

I just realized something-I picked 300-350k, you picked 250-300k. You keep saying my choice guaranteed failure but we are right around the same number.

why did you select 250-300k? did you do that to guarantee he failed as well?

My initial prediction for Cotto-Canelo was 550-650k buys, but now the more I think about it, probably more in the neighborhood of 3.5 million buys is what will separate success from failure. sarc/off

Anyone who expected at least a quarter million buys really must've thought highly of Lemieux then. I like watching Golovkin but even I streamed that shhh..i'll buy him and Cotto/Canelo but Lemieux? Not a chance in hell.

I predicted 225-250k, but it had nothing to do with Lemieux. I based my prediction on the recent ticket sales figures for GGG, combined with the strength of the HBO platform and marketing machine. I assumed that pretty much any HBO ppv was good for 200k plus, regardless of who was on. Because you have to go back 11 years to Klitschko-Danny Williams to find an HBO ppv that did below 200k buys.

So I stand corrected..........

I think you actually missing the point, GGG and co says wards not relevant mentions him all the time tried to kick around A side madness before even selling one ppv thinking he was already the next big thing and come to find out casuals ain't buying into hype so now it's back to regular HBO broadcasts for the forcible future where you and ward when he fought on HBO was doing the same numbers in viewers in a dead division that's hopes for a next ppv fight was on two guys who refuses to fight at mw limit and if push comes to shove will throw WBC belt in trash can while exiting Mandalay bay, seems to me they both in same boat one is building his brand back up after a long layoff the other thought he was bigger then he actually was so now needs to go back to drawing board

maybe not all the way back to the drawing board, but definitely needs to rethink economics going forward. Like I said to Dunn, GGG may be in a situation like Hopkins was for many years. If the Cotto-Canelo winner chooses to turn tail and run, there really arent any "big name" marquee fights for GGG at 160 or 168 for that matter. He may just have to unify 160 and wait for a name to come up from 154, same as Hops did..........
