That's a good point. The WBC will sanction the fight at 160, same as every MW title fight.

I guess there will be financial penalties and a "pull out clause" in the contract: If either man comes in overweight and his opponent pulls out, all costs will be paid by the promoter of the overweight fighter.

There was nothing like that in the contract for Cotto/Geale though. Geale could have really put Cotto on the spot by ignoring the catchweight and coming in at 159/160. But he did the honourable thing and kept his word.

Some boxers, mostly younger guys, have a metabolism that lets them cut weight without any affects. Canelo does and he is taking advantage of that. But look at Geale - who can say he didn't look severely drained losing just 3 lbs to come in at 157 for Cotto fight.

GGG, well we don't know, but we know he is older and it looks like he is comfortable at 160. Yeah, he said he would go down to 154 for Floyd, probably knowing he would lose but picking up $10 million. But 155 for Canelo and maybe $2-3 million - not worth it so much taking a possible loss.

It looks bad for Canelo that he is fighting at 155 which is MW. It would look better if he was at 154 or lower. So he pulls up fighters from jr. MW and comes in 18-20lbs over 155 or he drains true MWs down to 155. I call bullshit on that.

Poor Lil G, once Canelo demolishes Cotto on the 21st next month the WBC will go back on their word and give him a volontary defense. Then after that fight Nelo will vacate the WBC middleweight belt there's not enough money for him to fight 3G right now. Nelo doesn't need 3G on his resume give it three yrs when Nelo is in his prime he'll fight 3G but not anytime sooner.

I can't think of any Mexican champs that have been scared of a title defense over the last many years. Too proud and fierce warriors to sidestep a challenge. Canelo would be one of the first and would have to hang his head in shame in front of his fans. I think he fights Golovkin and would go out on his shield in a toe to toe blood bath before ducking him, JMO..

canelo will be forced to move up to 160 lbs eventually. if golovkin holds every title (or at least every title accessible to hbo fighters), canelo will not be able to avoid him forever

Canelo is little girl for asking for a CW. He's the same size, but is younger and more used to it. If he doesn't budge from his demand, I say screw him. Pick up all the belts and move on. If he compromises and meets in the middle, say 157-158, fine, give the little baby a treat and accept the CW.

Cotto has a better case for CW. He has no business fighting at MW, but he's moved up quite a bit. I would accept 155 from him.
