Golovkin Rejects Idea of Catch-Weight For Cotto, Canelo
IBF/IBO/WBA middleweight champion Gennady “GGG” Golovkin (34-0, 31 KOs) has no intention of agreeing to a catch-weight against the winner of Saul “Canelo” Alvar

its happened before, blame the predecessors. dlh did it to hopkins. i hate CW for world titles so if they propose it to GGG, shame on the canelo cotto winner, but the likely hood is that GGG will have to give into their demands sadly.Comment

Personally, I think that they should be abolished, with no exceptions.
With 17 divisions today catchweights are completely unnecessary.
We can all see that they are being abused.
But, if you live by the sword you die by the sword, and Cotto weighs 153.
Cotto could fight Golovkin at 160, no question..... but if we are ever going to accept/allow catchweights, EVER..... then a guy who weighs 153 is justified when requesting one from a guy who weighs 160.
I dont care about the title/lineage, and I doubt that Cotto does either.
I just want a fair fight. We all know that Cotto is not a middleweight, he picked up some ABC belt by winning a money fight against Martinez.
Also, Golovkin did not duck Ward, but he used that 164lb catchweight demand to avoid that fight and then justified it by stating that he was the "A-side". so.... ?
I feel that based on the fact that Golovkin had no problem with demanding a catchweight from Ward, he should likely meet the 153lb, a-side, legend that is Miguel Cotto at least halfway.Comment

But he wasn't the guy who was apparently preparing for Golovkin.
Ward was 172, and according to Loeffler Ward even considered the catchweight for Golovkin..... confirming that he can definitely make 168.
Team Golovkin had no reason to avoid that fight.
I agree that they had no real reason to take it either.Comment

Kathy Duva is right on this one. The winner will have a solid resume of quality wins and can rightfully be called P4P #1.
They will have earned the top spot due to their accomplishments in the ring and not based on "popularity contests."Comment

GGG isn't calling out anybody. The WBC have ordered the winner of Cotto/Canelo to defend the belt against him next, and he is saying he won't accept a catchweight when they do.
And your point is?Comment

Look, no joking now: Cotto (Ward's stablemate) would possibly be forced to face Golovkin next. For me it's quite bizarre that Ward wanted so badly to fight GGG in a time span starting with this fall and ending with the next summer. I suspect some RN strategy behind this.Comment

You will not be able to flip-flop on that post.
Cotto is obviously smaller, he weighed 153.
You should be prepared to stand by the ethics/morality of your post.Comment
