Who exactly is at 168 waiting for him? A year ago I would say two names worthy of discussing, right now nobody for the same reason that Ward is looking to make a splash at 175
... the WBC belt AND the "lineal"...

Some day we'll see, but for now there are belts to get.
Sorry to break your bubble, GGG is a very good fighter, but not way in hell he beats Ward, Ward is a more skilled, heavier guy than GGG. It's like putting Kovalev vs GGG, there's a reason weight classes exist.

It's just my opinion, but none of those test him. But yeah let him walk through all those and if Ward can get busy build up his draw if they could meet at 168 that would test him.

When it comes to legacy, fighters have to be tested.

Quillin may not have the tools and may not be the best in his division, but damn he's a true middleweight, something Cotto nor Canelo are.

Not on his radar? Didn't Golovkin said he wants all the middleweight belts? Who has the WBA middlewight belt then? That's right.....Quillin.

Unless Jacobs beat him of course.
Jacobs has the WBA regular belt, not Quillin. GGG is WBA super champ, of course

Hmm, GGG is the WBA Middleweight Champion, has been since 2010.

There is no need for the Super-Champ to chase after the 'Regular' champ. The WBC and WBO is all that's left, and then it's on to the 168 division. I didn't even know that they gave it to Quillin. I guess GGG is so good at defending his belt and fulfilling all his mandatory obligations that they just said, *** it, we'll put the Regular Title up for grabs again to collect some sanctioning fees.

One of the worst things a fighter can do in today's belt-hopping/division hopping era, is to leave a division with unfinished business. Right now, it's not so much the opponents per se but collecting all the belts and unifying. Clearly GGG sees the importance in that and is inspired by Hopkins' unifying of the division.

You don't wanna be like Broner, Robert Guerrero, Gamboa and several other Title/Division hoppers who are technically 2-division or 3-division champions but weren't recognized as champ's in any of those weight classes. You don't stand out that way. Becoming undisputed Champ and then moving up is the best path for GGG. You don't put in all this time at 160 without going all the way.

You can't be dumb enough to think this is actually true. Lemieux was 5 lbs heavier than GGG on fight night.

Quillin? Are you kidding? He has nothing Golovkin wants and wouldn't fight Golovkin in a million years. He would get destroyed and would be a waste of time. The winner of Cotto/Canelo must fight Golovkin or vacate the title. That stipulation was ordered and signed on during negotiations for Cotto/Canelo. This article has had some of the dumbest comments I've seen in awhile.

                  • I see, so it is Jacobs who has the WBA regular belt, not Quillin.

Lee has the WBO, so might as well then fight him next because if Cotto wins he probably gonna ask for a 5 year layoff and wants to dictate the terms since he thinks he's going to be the A side when he fights Golovkin, which he isn't.
