One guy said he would sacrifice his own weight and drop down to make the fight happen, while the other said his opponent must make the full jump for the fight to happen. Not entirely the same situations, I'd hope that everyone could agree to that at least.Comment

Lol @ "sacrifice"...he just wanted a payday. Go down to 154, look like a skeleton, get pot shotted for 12 rounds and make a career high payday.
Dude just wanted to make his money so he can go home and get fat like Maidana. That isn't no damn sacrifice.

I tend to think if Canelo wins, the fight is almost assured of going down during Cinco de Mayo weekend (Canelo & GBP have been itching to take the Mexican holiday dates from Mayweather for awhile, now that Mayweather is out I think they jump at fighting during that first opening in early May). A Mexican vs the Mexican Style guy seems like something that would sell nicely on PPV & that HBO & GBP/K2 would love to promote. Thats obviously just my opinion like you have yours. On the other hand Cotto has shown himself to be a very "picky" fighter, lets say, who likes to line things up as best as he can. If Cotto beats Canelo, I myself will be a lil pessimistic until I start seeing some reasons not to be as far as a GGG vs Cotto fight happening in the first half of 2016 or perhaps at all.Only way Golovkin gets the fight in the first half of 2016 would be if Cotto or Canelo savaged the other within 6 rounds (a la Cotto-Geale or Alvarez-Kirkland); barring injury, literally any other result would lead to Cotto-Alvarez 2 on PPV May/June 2016 (possibly earlier, to open up the new Las Vegas Arena). On top of that, if the rematch does happen, the winner (and loser) of the fight likely won't get into the ring again until the late fall.
Maybe I'm just a pessimist.
No no one is expecting GGG vs Lemieux to do 1M or hell most outside of the GGG fanboys even expect 500k. But GGG getting his foot in the PPV door is important & not a bad move right now. I think all the best non-HW PPV guys, Oscar, Floyd & Manny all did sub 350k numbers their first time out. I suspect GGG won't surpass that either. No one is earnestly expecting Golovkin-Lemieux to even do marginally decent business on PPV, but having that PPV fight to close out the year before heading into 2016 with Golovkin-Johnson and Golovkin-Heiland as the likely fights in the que (possibly on PPV, as I don't picture HBO being happy to go into the budget and put either fight on regular HBO) is placing a lot of hope on the Cotto/Alvarez fight actually happen.
And yea HBO should be acting like things will be going down cuz HBO is the industry leader in the sport & have a pretty solid history of making things go down. If you don't wanna fight on HBO or HBO PPV in a fight you don't like attention or money & if thats the case wtf are you doing with your boxing career.
I think people have discounted Ward's popularity & drawing ability more than his boxing skills as of late. And I feel rightfully so. He had great heat on him immediately after the Super Six win, but he's done virtually nothing with that heat & now he's merely room temp at best. Its probably in Ward's & GGG's best interest for them NOT to fight sooner rather than later. Ward could use some heat back on him before getting into a PPV fight on this level to fully promote it. If we are being honest he's done f#ck all anyone cares about since the Dawson win. And GGG is stepping into the PPV world soon to enhance his self so he's a good fighter you'll finally make good money fighting. GGG vs Ward makes more sense in 2017 after GGG has fully built up his 160 legacy & is ready to move up & Ward has gotten back into his flow that he has post-Super Six.And, imo, people are significantly discounting Andre Ward; he's only 31 years of age, he's the sport's best fighter (only reason that's even a conversation is because of inactivity; after sitting on the sidelines for 14 months, Ward showed no real signs of rust in utterly outclassing a guy who pushed the WBO 168lb champion through most of their two title fights), is signed to a promoter that's willing to put in the money, is based out of one of the country's top 5 media markets, and is coming back at a time when the sport is looking to fill a large void (18k-seat Oracle Arena, 18k-seat Barclays Center, and 20k-seat Las Vegas Arena can all be rotated in between).
Ward's personality already being TV friendly, while also coming to the table with hardly any baggage to his name, sets him up great once he gets active again.Comment

41 pages for what?!
Defending Gennady at this point is just foolish. He's the "terminator" until Ward's name is mentioned and then the excuses never cease...from his team and his delusional fans.
You didn't learn with #48? Golovkin cannot beat Andre Ward. It's that simple and they will not entertain this fight unless it's absolutely necessary.Last edited by Gary Coleman; 10-10-2015, 09:07 AM.Comment

I dont miss anything genius. YOURE the one who seems to think that anyone would offer Ward a piece of the ppv to fight a slob on the undercard. That's up to the parties to work out (if I had to guess, Roc Nation would likely cover Ward's share out of their take on the PPV).
Offering a piece of the PPV proceeds simply give Roc Nation an alternative means to finance getting Andre Ward onto the card. Floyd Mayweather Jr went into his pocket to front nearly $3m to have Garcia-Matthysse on his undercard. Rather than do the same for their show, Roc Nation seems willing to give up some of the back end money to get Ward on the undercard.
Hate on Ward all you want, if he finally gets confirmed for the PPV, Andre Ward will likely be the fighter fulfilling the vast majority of the English language media obligations (Sportsnation since it's out of LA, radio push across the country, a likely return to The View with Rosie Perez, assorted other press), with neither Canelo or Cotto being all that good at or engaging in English, tbh.
For a person who's supposed to be a promoter, you miss a lot.
And Jay-Z is pretty much a billionaire by now. I dont really think he needs to "alternately finance" Ward's participation on the show. If Roc thinks getting Ward in front of those ppv eyes is worth writing a check, they will do it. Same as they did for BET. If not, then they won't.
Or, maybe putting Ward on the card is simply another "aspirational statement" from Team Ward.Comment

GGG would be ****** to fight Ward, he's still building his brand fighting tomato cans. A loss to Ward would end his rise as a PPV attraction.
Ward would embarrass Golovkin right now. GGG needs to make his money fighting smaller guys and then cash out with a award fight when the time is right.Comment

Lol. Ultimately, Team GGG are just about making money, period. That's all they care about. It's funny seeing some posters that criticised Floyd for "chasing money" while actually fighting elite opposition defend this bull****.Lol @ "sacrifice"...he just wanted a payday. Go down to 154, look like a skeleton, get pot shotted for 12 rounds and make a career high payday.
